Quilty Throwback Thursday
Every year I plan to make an Autumn quilt. And every year I never find the time. This season is an incredibly busy time for me because of all the planning and set up for the Homosassa Arts, Crafts, and Seafood Festival. It’s a huge event that the Homosassa Civic Club holds every November–well, covid shut us down last year. After the festival is over I usually go directly into CHRISTMAS! That’s true again this year. The festival was last weekend and now I’m working on a Christmas quilt and other holiday projects.
But I do have two quilts that I put out for Fall. The first is one I made possibly in 2005. I’m guessing because I didn’t know about making quilt labels. I used a pattern from a better Homes and Gardens leaflet and I remember being very disappointed at how small it was. Guess I didn’t bother to read the dimensions. All I thought was, “It’s a quilt! It goes on a bed!” Not this one! At the time, I found it excruciating to do all that machine quilting. It took forever and was tucked away many times because I didn’t enjoy the quilting process at all. But I’m not a QUITTER and I finally finished. This is the second quilt I made. The first was when I was about 21 so it was several decades before I attempted this one.
The second quilt I bring out is probably responsible for my quilting obsession. I saw a quilt I liked either on Pinterest or on the web somewhere. I got graph paper out and drew my version of it. Used color pencil to fill in the paper blocks.
I know I made it in 2014 because I actually made a quilt label.
This was the first time I used Minky for the backing. It is nap size and so cozy for those cool Fall evenings.
Someday I hope to make a Fall quilt with all those beautiful reds, oranges, and yellows for myself. But until then, I’m pretty pleased with these two. They brighten up the house but still have an Autumnal Vibe.
