Quilty Cats and other Stories
Last week I was 99.9% sure that I was not making more cat blocks. I filed the pattern away and even threw out all the little labels I use to identify the fabric pieces.
I was a bit disappointed in some of the kittens.
I didn’t like how the black eyes just disappeared in the dark fabric. And I didn’t like the calico cat’s tail.
Usually I like my quilts. I put a lot of consideration into the pattern, the fabric, the colors…..
Anyhow….
After I put the cats on the NEW design wall, I changed my mind a little. They weren’t too bad. Maybe I could highlight the eyes when I do the final quilting so they will stand out.
And I changed out the calico cat’s tail. It’s the last section to add on each block so it was easy-peasy to make a new one.
So I’m back at it! There will be more kittens, starting with a ginger–Ed, Athena’s brother.
I was in a big rush to get the two pillows and first six cat blocks done. I’m not sure how many more cats I’ll make—at least two—but I’ll be taking my time with the rest of them. Maybe one kitty a week? In a year I would have 52 cats in their pjs! We will see!
I did make the ginger cat this week!

I have seven cats and one tail finished. Only 4 and 2/3s more and I’ll have enough for the large quilt!
Now that I have a HUGE design wall, I can put up more than one quilt, right?
I have four large totes full of denim. I have been washing and drying jeans and then cutting the legs off and trimming them down to useable fabric. I’m keeping the top of the jeans for other projects.
Time for a new denim quilt?
How about a new “Riley” quilt? I designed this pattern way back in 2015! A decade! Perhaps it’s time to make a second one.
Or…..
I could join up with the Moda Blockheads 6 QAL that starts on May 21st. I did Blockheads 3 and it was a great learning experience. I could use the denim stash for the background.
Lots to think about!

Like a famous philosopher once said: “Cats are like potato chips you can’t have just one!” Beautiful squares!
I agree, I need more cats. Just tried to expose Athena to the two kittens that my grandkids have. Did not go over well! Athena is not want friends! But I do need to make more cat squares!
