Very Nice Mice
I have been following the blog Ann Wood Handmade obsessively since I started learning about designing my own softies. (No, that’s not stalking!!!)
She has many fun patterns for sale and several free patterns that can be downloaded as a PDF.
And that’s where I got the pattern for Very Nice Mice.
Here’s my very first very nice mouse.
The pattern is meant to be hand sewn with 1/8″ seams. If I’m in a hurry, my hand stitchery is not the best–as you can see by those Frankenstein stitches on little gray mouse’s face. I was trying to get him finished quickly so I could get some photos and then I could eat the cookie.
I thought this would be good project to work on when we were on vacation in North Dakota. And I figured my granddaughters would like a couple of these very nice mice while I was perfecting my hand stitching.
But their mama HATES mice. Seriously. This woman HATES mice. Don’t even say the word around her.
So instead, I turned them into bunnies. With adorable fluffy pom pom tails.
Because the bunnies were small, they went a lot of places with us. Like the movies and a museum. Here is a pic of one bunny that decided to climb the rock wall at the park!
But my daughter-in-law was not fooled. “Those are mice disguised as rabbits!”
Oh well, might as well make a mouse!
Anyhow….these were easy and quick to make. Plus I think they are really cute. I downloaded the pattern and then cut and paste it to make one letter-sized file with several mice parts on it and printed it on letter-sized freezer paper. Then I pressed the pieces onto the wool felt and cut out and followed the tutorial from Ann Wood Handmade.
I put a little pink fabric marker on the ears. Then stuffed them with fiberfill and embroidered their faces on. I used french knots for the eyes.
If you start making these, watch out, it can be addictive. Two rapidly turned into four very nice mice! (Some disguised as rabbits!)
Thank you Ann Wood for the fun pattern!
