Tuesday Thoughts
Let’s talk about reading…
And books.
As soon as I could learn to read I did. I remember sitting on my dad’s lap and really wanting to know what was in that newspaper. (My dad was not a cuddly person so I don’t know how I managed to sit in his lap!) My grandfather was a former teacher and while I was very young started teaching me. Once I understood that alchemy, I never stopped.
There is a little widget over in the side panel where I post books that I have read. I do it to keep track of what I have read and my thoughts about the books. Because, I have to admit, I read too fast, and don’t remember the story, and as I get older it is easier to forget.
And maybe you would like an uncritical very short review of a book. I try to never give away the ending. Mostly I say whether I hate it or not. And why.
Which brings me to the New York Times 100 best books so far this century.
I have read several. Mostly because I mainly get my recommendations from NYT which I subscribe to. And that was kind of accidental because I subscribed to their recipe site (every recipe I have tried is amazing—not easy—but so yummy!) and they threw in some free stuff at some point and now I’m hooked. Paying the money. But totally worth it!
My second source is on Instagram. Parnasus Book store in Nashville. Ann Patchett, one of my favorite authors, owns the shop and a few times a week, she and her people recommend books. Plus there are bookstore dogs. With cute names. the Instagram handle is @parnasusbooks. If you enjoy reading, I highly recommend it.
And the second list from NYT from readers that list their favorite 100 books. This one is actually from the readers. And I like it better because many of the books I have enjoyed are on there. Even a Stephen King!
Anyhow. I sew, quilt, craft, make music, but most importantly, I read.
