Tuesday Meanderings
I wanted to give an update on my future sewing space but it is very wet which has impeded progress. I thought I had the water issues resolved but last week we had a torrential rainstorm. A typical Florida summer deluge but this is North Dakota. Not so normal for this area. Wet again. I am now doing some research. I can not be the only person that has water seeping under the overhead garage door!
Since I can’t offer much about the sewing room, thought I’d do a little meander and share a piece of life in North Dakota.
Last week there was a cow in my back yard. I live in the city limits but my property backs up to beautiful rolling pastures which I’m assuming are not in the city. I don’t believe we are allowed to have cows. Perhaps I should check on the zoning. (Because I might get sheep to keep that back yard chewed down!)
I was concerned about the cow wandering onto the busy street in front of our house and causing an accident. But who should I report this trespassing bovine to? I called the non-emergency dispatch line for the police department. Two very nice officers stopped by and herded the cow into the pasture that is behind my property. I suggested that perhaps the fence was down. Maybe they should contact the owners of the property.
The next day two police cars were at the bottom of my driveway. The police officer called to let me know that there were cows visiting the neighbor. Do I know who owns the cows? No.
And then the next evening I had three cows in my back yard. Reached out to dispatch again. The police officer assigned to the call said that I should fix my fence. Not my fence. Did some research. The city park district owns the property. The officer also said that a bull is probably pushing the fence down. Those aren’t bulls. Cows with calves. I was raised on a farm. I know the difference.
Early Wednesday morning I had a very pretty red cow visit. I didn’t bother to call. I had to drive to Fargo which is three hours away so I just hoped that the cow would be gone by the time I came back. She was.
And then a few days later I got a call from the police department and she said my cows were loose again and I needed to round them up. NOT MY COWS! NOT MY FENCE! I explained again that I have no idea who belongs to the cows. That the fence is on the park’s property. Look at the city plat map.
The cows have not been in my yard again. (Perhaps they put that pushy bull in the barn. Or maybe the park repaired the fence.)
But I did get a visit from these mule deer on Saturday. It was a smokey foggy morning but they brightened up the day! Cool!

Minnesota person here…live your blog. We have same issue with garage and have tried multiple things to no avail. We also have seepage in our unfinished basement.. thus the reason why it is unfinished. We wanted floor covering but for the times that water comes in it was hard to figure out what to do. We decided to use 1 in rubber flooring used in gyms. They come in pieces like a puzzle and because they are rubber if they get wet it is easy to lift them and dry them. We have put the same flooring in the side of tbr garage we use as a shop. I know it is not what you asked for..but we are pleased with the results.
Thank you for liking my blog! I enjoy putting it together. I like your idea on the rubber flooring. I think Lowe’s carries it and I will check it out. I have not quite given up on fixing the issue. Been watching lots of YouTube videos and we are planning to try something else.
Now that’s some good eatin’!
Lauri says they are worth $2000 each! But they all look like mamas and they have calves out in the pasture so I think I won’t rustle them. Not yet!
