Tell Me A Story — Daytime Version
I finished the Daytime Version of my “Tell Me A Story” Quilt the last week of February. Had to get it done then because I made the label and that was the date! If I’d only known that March was National Quilt Month, I would have made a different label!
And here it is! I love how happy and bright it turned out!
I posted about the nighttime version last month.
I love how both of them turned out. Happy and colorful bunnies, stars, flowers, butterflies, moths and hummingbirds!
Lots of special little details.
Both the daytime and nighttime versions have raw edge appliqué, foundation paper piecing, and plain old patchwork. I did some embroidery along with machine quilting and hand quilting. On the daytime version I also did some scribbly stitching around appliqués.
I started the nighttime quilt several years ago. I planned on making it into a twin size quilt for the daybed I had in the grandkids’ room. The daybed also had a twin sized trundle so the daytime version would go there. Then I gave the daybed away. What was I thinking? (To be perfectly honest, I was planning on moving my sewing room in there! Who needs a daybed in their sewing room? And then stuff happened and now there’s a queen bed in there!)
New Plan! After so many hours of work on the quilts, I wanted to have them on display and I didn’t have enough wall space to make them into wall hangings so had the brilliant idea to make them into curtains for the grandkids’ room. Since I planned on using them for curtains, I didn’t put batting in these quilts. I just put flannel as the backing.
And I didn’t like them as curtains. I’m not sure why. Maybe they were just too much? Or not enough? I like each quilt, I just do not like them as curtains. So down they went and the curtains I made several years ago went back up.
I also wish I had used batting. One aspect of quilting I enjoy is after washing the quilt and all that crinkly goodness shows up. (Which also hides some of my quilting mistakes!)
Now I’m not sure what I’ll do with them! I considered taking them apart and stitching them into one large queen-size quilt—with batting, of course. But the thought of picking out all the quilty stitches–scheesh. For now, they are going right here on this table in the grandkids’ bedroom. Both of the little ones in North Dakota love curling up in blankets! Maybe they can use them for lap quilts while playing with their iPads or reading books.
When I finish a project I store all the fabric and patterns away. I had a lot of renderings from designing the quilts and have folded them up and put them in packets. Perhaps I’ll eventually make a smaller wall hanging for that bedroom. I do love bunnies!
While I learned a bunch while making these quilts, I was often frustrated with the nighttime version. I’m happy that they are finally finished.
Now the only unfinished quilt project is the one I’m making for Christmas 2022.
I’ve decided that I will start working on it as a “Christmas in July” project so it will be stored away until then. I also started these hearts but they aren’t really a quilt. They are more like a stress reliever for when I get upset or anxious. I cut up some strips and started stitching! I think my next color will be red! Or blue! Or yellow! So indecisive!
Since I’m starting my Christmas quilt in July, should I be starting a summer quilt now? Something patriotic? Red, white, and my favorite color blue? Followed by an autumn quilt in May?
Having said that I’m not doing any more “quilt-a-longs” after I finished Moda Blockheads 3, Moda is starting their Moda BlockHeads 4 on March 23. You can join the QAL for free and can follow along by joining their FB page, Moda Blockheads. I’m SOOOOOO tempted but I’m not going to do it. While I have learned many different quilting techniques from these QALs, I also make me a little crazy while participating. I’m taking it easy this year—none of my self-created deadlines! But I might download some blocks and save them for the future.
One final quilting note, International quilting day is this Saturday but I won’t be participating. I’ll be in the Shrimpapalooza parade followed by the festival. It’s Homosassa’s version of Mardi Gras. I’ll be playing my ukulele and wearing Shrimp themed apparel. Shrimp is a big deal here in Homosassa. Lots of people earn their living by catching and selling shrimp so we need to celebrate the tasty morsel!
Have a great week!
