Summer Quilt
I have two wee friends at my house this week. The first is my newborn grandson, Arthur Terrance, and the second is my new 9-week-old kitten, Athena. They are both keeping everyone very busy. I’ve been sewing but not snapping snaps nor posting posts. I will get back to both of those next week!
While I haven’t been snapping nor posting, I have had some time to do some pondering…..and ordering….
When I put the Hope Baby Quilt up on the wall in my dining room, it blew me away. It looked AMAZING in there. OMG! Of course, I had to give the quilt to the baby, right? After all, we’ve been anxiously awaiting this precious nugget for it seems like years and years and years…..so I probably shouldn’t keep his quilt. Right?
Okay. I gave the quilt to that precious little person. He’s a little too young for it right now.
But after seeing how great that piece looked on the wall with that hexie table runner—I knew I had to make a matching wall hanging. (And I probably need to make runners and matching wall hangings for every month and holiday of the year!)
So I had all these projects listed that I was planning to start and finish before beginning another quilt–but nope. I fell down the rabbit hole.
Hard!
I wanted this new wall hanging to be something easy. Although I love HSTs, they take extra time. All that cutting and squaring up. And there was this free quilt pattern from Ruby Star Society. Have I ever mentioned how much I love the fabric designs by the ladies from Ruby Star Society? They are somewhere between whimsical and “in your face”.
So I started out thinking that I would do their Summer Sewalong. It’s not one of those “mystery” QALs. The pattern and instructions are already out there through Instagram. So I am totally not breaking my resolution of NO QALs in 2022. It starts June 20th. You might be able to click on this link to access the pattern for the summer sewalong. It’s all 5” unfinished squares. Easy Peasy.
And I was thinking…..I’ll just use bits and pieces of fabric I already have. And since the sewalong is 67 1/2” wide by long, I’ll just lose a couple columns and rows and make a beautiful wall hanging.
But then I fell even deeper down the rabbit hole…and ordered a couple yards of the Ruby Star Society “Strawberry Friends” from SoJoFabric on Etsy. Which arrived very quickly.
And deeper…..
I thought, we’ll I’ve already ordered that much, perhaps I should make a quilt AND a wall hanging. So I went out to Fat Quarter Shop and ordered several more yards. (Which still hasn’t shown up although I ordered it a day after the SoJoFabric order.)
I also have a couple of older prints from Ruby Star Society that I plan on throwing into the mix.
Oh jeeze….
I admit it. I’m addicted to fabric.
I’ll give it up as soon as I get this quilt and wall hanging done!
Really.
I will.
(I say that as I’m compulsively looking on Etsy for the Strawberry friends in the color that Fat Quarter Shop didn’t have in stock!)
