Rock Star Quilt
I found my BabyLock quilting machine, It was in a very special tote that I ordered just for her highness. Large. Black. She was wrapped up as she should be.
I lovingly pulled her out of her containment, embraced her as I took her to the dining room, set her up, and was all ready to start on a new quilt.
Happy to report that she is okay with being captured in the tote for many months. (Better than the Bernina that did not make the trip unscathed!)
And then I realized I didn’t have any of my rulers. Well, just one or two. But not the correct sizes for this new project.
After searching, searching, searching through all of my unpacked sewing totes, I almost gave up. Oh where oh where could they be? I really didn’t want to spend the big bucks to buy replacements.
But then went back to all those totes and did a better search. I pulled out the fabric containers that were in the big rubbermaid boxes and there they were. Nicely padded between yardage.
Shortly after finding all my tools, the new background fabric arrived.
I’ve been wanting to order the Starry fabric from Ruby Star Society ever since it came out, but I held off until I had a quilt to use it with. I thought these little multi-colored stars would be perfect for this colorful quilt that started out with three packages of charms.
Just a side note here, I always have to order the Ruby Star Society fabric online. None of the local quilt shops I have visited over the years carry the line, although they do carry Moda and this is from Moda. Many many years ago, I found some of the Cotton & Steel fabric, which was the predecessor of Ruby Star Society, on clearance. I bought it all. Asked the quilt shop worker about it and she said that they just couldn’t sell it.
I’m basing this quilt on the Baby Rock Star quilt that is my go to design for baby quilts. It will change over the coming weeks. That’s the nice thing about making my own designs, it’s mine, I can do what I want!
One of the charm packs is all different shades of green. That is what I’m starting with. Three blocks of green. The other two packs have blues and yellows. I might get another pack that includes pinks. Haven’t really decided yet.
I cut a bunch of 5″ squares and 4 1/2″ squares from the Starry fabric. Then made Half Square Triangles (HST).
Now I have to trim the solid blocks for the center down to 4 1/2″. (Kind of a waste of 5″ charms!)
Testing to see how I like the color combos for the greens….
Think I am happy with these and will hopefully have them all sewn together (Plus More!) for next week’s post!
