“Squirrelly Girl” Fabric Pumpkins
I have long admired and wanted fabric pumpkins. And “Squirrelly Girl” fabric actually motivated me to make them.
Check out Pinterest and you will probably get about 500 different free tutorials and variations. I went with the tutorial from Ameroonie Designs, How to Sew Fabric Pumpkins. Because it was easy and free and I liked the look. Plus I’ve been following that blog for quite some time.
The downloadable pattern comes with two different sizes of the pumpkin and you can buy more sizes on her etsy site.
And they turned out adorable. I even did some fussy cutting of that cute squirrel toile.
And they were especially cute paired up with the Butter Sisters.
The pumpkins are easy-peasy. Just trace the pattern and cut out six sections then follow the directions.
When I have to turn something inside out and then stitch the opening closed by hand, I try to make the hole as small as possible. Which makes cramming all that fiberfill inside almost impossible. That’s where this hemostat comes in. They are also quite handy when turning small projects right side out.
I used my DMC Pearle Cotton in Size 8 for the tufting. Probably the most difficult part (and it wasn’t that hard) was turning the bottom hem under for the stems. Only difficult because they are small and fit into the category FIDDLEY.
They were so easy to make and charming that I couldn’t help myself and made four more!
And here’s the whole “Squirrely Girl” gang so far.
I think I have just enough fabric left for ONE more “Squirrely Girl’ project. Maybe…..
