Some Decor & More
If you follow me on Instagram, you might have noticed that I have been painting. Not pictures. Walls. I couldn’t quite afford the painting pros, so I’m doing it myself. Slowly. Maybe one room a month? Or year.
Here is the before photo from when I was using it as my sewing room last year. Before we bought the house from my son and daughter-in-law, this was granddaughter Piper’s bedroom. Pink. Glitter.
If you don’t follow me over on social media, here’s the photos I posted of my latest project.
Of course Athena is supervising.
And after one coat of primer.
While I used this room last summer for sewing, now it will be a guest room, just need to make some curtains. Put the bed in the perfect spot. Install a headboard. Move some more furniture in. Hang some pics. Just…..
And I might have it done by Sunday because I have guests coming! (At this point, I am rather doubtful that it will be ready, but who needs curtains?) A bunch of family is coming in so all the bedrooms (four) will be full. There might even be a few peeps on couches!
And onto other creative pursuits…..
If you have been following along for awhile, you might remember this dresser from last summer.
My son picked it up at a thrift store.
It’s solid maple.
This is what it looked like back in September when I headed back to Florida.
And here it is now……
I had to wait for those pulls but I LOVE them so much. They are like jewelry for this dresser.
My inspiration was this tray that I bought many years ago and spray painted gold. I bought it only for those lucite handles. Scheesh. So beautiful.
I couldn’t find exactly the same pulls but was happy to find these that I could change the sizes. I had 2 1/2″ centers and 3″ centers. More about that in a future post. Maybe. No. I will do it!
I also lined the drawers with wallpaper which I didn’t order enough of the first time around and had to wait for that, too. It wasn’t quite wide enough so I had to seam the pieces together. They aren’t perfect but I think they are very good since I’ve never worked with wallpaper!
And I also want to say that this is the very first piece that I have tried to refinish and use. Stripping. Sanding. Watching YouTube videos. I made lots of mistakes. Don’t look too closely! Fortunately, I’m the only one that can see all the errors. But overall, I love how it turned out. It really is beautiful.
One more shot of the dresser. This one is from the spot where I’m cooking dinner. I can watch the news of the day while throwing together some culinary delight.
Watching the news at the end of a long day. Is that good or bad? I should be watching something uplifting like Dateline. Ha!
I’ve been sanding another dresser. Hoping to get that finished by this weekend, also. My devious plot is to have my guests help me get it moved into a bedroom. Along with a few (many) other pieces.
And the flowers for this week…..
A daylily which I suspect is a Stella d’ora.
I knew that this was a lily but didn’t know what kind, did a quick Google Image search on all the flowers for this week and found out that it is an Asiatic Lily.
Next up was this one that I was quite sure was a weed. And it is. But a really good weed. It’s a milkweed which is a host plant for Monarch butterflies! I have seen butterflies here but no Monarchs yet. I’m really excited about the possibility!
And this one.
I was pretty excited to see these lovely purple flowers. I am not having the acreage behind our property mowed. It’s very steep and I thought I would let it run wild and I would see all the native animals, fowl, and plants enjoy the prairie.
Funny thing is. This purple flower started popping up closer to the house. Turns out, it is an invasive and obnoxious weed. Not a native at all. Whoops! I didn’t plant it. But it really is pretty.
Ha! I’m all about native plants and this one is not a native and really bad and out of control!
Ha! It really doesn’t matter. I will enjoy it’s lovely blooms!
Next week!
