Shark Week 2022
It’s SHARK WEEK!
The week that the Discovery Channel likes to scare the bejeesus out of their viewers.
And in honor of that special week, I like to post about my very cute Shark Pattern. It’s free, it’s fun, it’s easy-peasy. You can download the tutorial here and the pattern here.
I keep a supply of softies here to give to kids when they visit. My smallest granddaughter tucked a mermaid into her luggage on her last visit and two other littles took home Fernie Foxes. Not sharks! What? They were all little girls and I’m thinking that sharks appeal to boys. Need to make some more foxes and mermaids I guess.
But I still wanted to make a shark in honor of the yearly TV event. So Sunday afternoon I made one for Athena! She loves all my softies! I reduced the pattern to 30% and said to myself, that’s way too small. Athena might swallow that. Then I changed it up to 50%. Perfect.
I followed my tutorial. Well, there were a few exceptions. Reduced to 50%, I also reduced the seam allowance to 50% which was then a 1/8 inch seam allowance. I skipped the interfacing and the top stitching for the fins. Hey, it’s for a cat. She won’t notice those little details. Oh, one more change. I embroidered the eyes on with French knots. I thought about using safety eyes but that smitten kitten would just rip them out. She is a little crazy.
And here is my great white shark. Except he kinda looks like an albino dolphin. If I had wanted to design a dolphin, it would have looked like a shark. Scheesh.
But Athena didn’t care! Dolphin….shark….she already crashed my little photo session, grabbed her new toy, drug it around the house, and now they are snuggling.
Happy Shark Week!

Add a little catnip inside & she’ll never let it go!
She doesn’t like catnip! Nor will she use her scratching pad that I have covered with catnip. Also ignores the laser light pointers. All things that Miss Kitty LOVED! Maybe it’s something they grow into?
