Sewing Room Refresh Continues
After struggling with the making of the new cushions for my chairs, I thought that I should take on something a little easier.
I had this bulletin board that was hidden away in my laundry room for the past several years. It had definitely seen better days but I thought I could spruce it up. Give it some personality. And then use it for a small design board.
I bought one yard of pink fleece. I had wanted a light greenish-blue to match my walls but Joanne’s didn’t have that shade. I considered off white but said to myself, how boring is that? So pink it was.
I covered up the frame with painter’s tape and then sprayed that 3M Super 77 Multipurpose Adhesive on it. Put the fleece on the front of the board. And found my X-acto knife so I could trim it down. Turns out that X-acto knife was the dullest X-acto knife in the world. It wouldn’t cut fleece. I tried using my scissors. Rotary cutter. Chewing on it. Nope. Then I found my good X-acto knife. (I rarely use one but when I do it better be sharp!)
But by then, I had already hacked the edges of the fleece. Ugly.
I was desperate and went through many boxes of supplies searching for something I could put over the edges. And. Voila! Very thin pink bias tape. Perfect. I glued that on with Aleene’s Original Tacky Glue.
Now for the frame. Could have painted it but should have done that before I did the fleece. So, again, did some searching. Washi tape! And I had some that was black and white diagonal stripe. Just like the piping on my cushions! Which was perfect but not quite enough. I used it on the top and bottom then used polka dot on the sides. Good enough. (I love washi tape but it doesn’t stick very well. This will eventually start peeling off and then Ill glue it!)
Next up. The shelf under the bulletin board. I seemed to remember that there were mason jars in the attic. From a wedding. Seven years ago. And I was right. There were six dozen pint mason jars up there! Yikes. No rings or lids. So I ordered some of those. Again used washi tape to give the jars some flair. Storage! And it’s pretty! And convenient!
Next up. Many years ago Terry and I made this photo board for the grandkids room.
Bought a pack of six of these insulation panels at Home Depot. And only used four.
This one has been hanging out in my garage. Getting moved from place to place. Couldn’t bring myself to throw a perfectly good insulation board away!
I cut it down to the size I wanted with my GOOD VERY SHARP X-acto knife. Got the spray glue out. Again. Sprayed the front of the board. (Got it all over my hands, too, what a mess!)
Wrapped it in pink fleece.
I used Command picture hanging strips on the back of the panel.
Voila! Another design board!
Useful and Fun!
Next up, taking on that bookcase!
