Sew Slow — My Norah Quilt
The last time I posted about my Norah Quilt I had just finished basting and was waiting for new toys…NO new tools..not toys…TOOLS!
The hoop arrived in just a few days as did the really cool thimble and needles. Sad face that I bought all from Amazon. But. Where else do I turn? Really peeps. Don’t judge me. I live in HOMOSASSA! WE ONLY HAVE A WALMART!!!!
But the DMC thread. Not so fast. Ordered on line from DMC. About the same time that I ordered that big ass hoop. Then the thread didn’t arrive so I went to Hobby Lobby last Wednesday in Brooksville. With face covered and bought the ONLY ecru DMC thread in size 8. And then the two I ordered from DMC finally arrived yesterday. Okay. I totally understand that there is no one working in warehouses and the USPS is kinda slow. On the bright side. I now have THREE of these lovely rolls of thread. (They really are very beautiful but that’s only because I love threads and fabrics…oh you know.)
So let’s talk about SEW SLOW or SLOW SEW. Whatever. I’ve been seeing this on blogs and instagram and all those other social media sites for a few years. Time to slow down. Sew. Meditate with the stitches.
I started from the center. That’s that cute little rabbit bit down there. I probably should have practiced my hand-quilting on a smaller project but……this is for me. It doesn’t matter?
Gotta say that I have been enjoying SEW SLOW for a few years now. This is all about doing things by hand. Not slowing your sewing machine down. (That thought made me snicker a little.)
I’ve been doing EPP. English Paper Piecing.
And hand embroidery.
I really like having a small hand stitchery project waiting for me at the end of the day.
But on to a BIG slow hand stitching project….
Hand quilting. Which I NEVER thought I’d try. But. I’m all about trying new things right now. And it’s kind of fun. Just making big Frankenstein stitches while I’m watching TV and enjoying a glass of wine! (Or the entire bottle!)
I watched a couple of videos. Still haven’t got it perfected. But. It doesn’t matter. Sew Slow.
I’m also using a 100% cotton batting. Never used that before but it was suggested by Sunny Day Supply–the designer of the Norah quilt. And I happened to have it on hand for a project that it didn’t work out for.
So. No matter if my stitches are too big or too small. I’m pretty sure when I actually finish this lovely quilt that batting will shrink and all those stitches will be wonderful! Whether large or small. And I’m pretty sure that this will be my favorite quilt of all time!
But it will be slow. Very slow. Kind of like the economy right now.
Enjoy the slow!
