Renew for My Old Office Chair
Months ago–before the pandemic, I bought this fabric to update my office/sewing chair.
It’s from Rifle Paper Company. And you know I love all things Rifle Paper Company!
This was the chair.
It had seen better days. Terry bought it for his office when he was semi-retired way back in 2013. When the world was still young. And happy. And not socially-distanced. After he fully retired I took it to my office and then to my sewing room. With all intentions of renewing it. But time went by. And I put it off.
And finally in January of 2020. Before life as we knew it ended….
Terry took it apart…..
We recovered the seat by stapling batting and my lovely new fabric on but I was perplexed as to how to use the staple gun on the back and arms. (We are not upholsterers!) So Terry put it back together.
And I procrastinated which is what I do when I’m unsure as to how to do something. And the seat back and arms continued to deteriorate.
Then we started moving my sewing stuff downstairs.
I kept putting off bringing the chair. But finally. I had to do it. I missed it! It’s a great chair. But I couldn’t have it where anyone walking in the door would see it. Not like that!
And I finally. Finally. Finally. Made a slipcover for the back and the arms.
SO PRETTY!
Why did I put it off for SO LONG! I would love to make a matching cover for my sewing machine. But I used most of the fabric and it’s no longer available. Heavy sigh.
Almost all my sewing furniture and tools are downstairs now. Fabric and other stitchy supplies are all stored on the Ikea shelves in my music room/office. Crafts have a home in my laundry room.
My Serger came down Sunday. I’m hoping to find a small used table about the size of this little stand for the Serger. Until then I’ll just move it over to my sewing table when I need it. I’m ashamed to say that I’ve never used the Serger and I bought it in June! I took one class for the Serger then had my accident and couldn’t go back for the other two classes that came with the machine. Of course, I’ve forgotten everything from the first session. And it is so different than using a sewing machine. Guess I’ll need to learn online!
The only furniture remaining upstairs are my large fold-up cutting table and my pressing table. I just do not have enough room for them.
I’m using my Ikea table for my cutting table now. It works well.
One more pic of my beautiful chair!
Love it!
