Reading in April
I managed to read two books this month.
The first was “Bewilderment” by Richard Powers. The author is one that Margaret Atwood recommended in the book “Burning Questions: Essays and Occasional Pieces, 2004 to 2021”. I liked the writing style but didn’t like the story. Kind of a takeoff from Daniel Keyes “Flowers for Algernon“. If you read that book or watched the movie, you know how the story ends. This version is updated to 2021. I think it is supposed to be science fiction but most of the themes are already taking place NOW. I found it depressing because we are living this book.
The next one I read was “Box 88” by Charles Cummin. A good fun spy novel. There is a second book that continues the story which I’m hoping to read but it’s not at the library yet.
I attempted to read “Music is History” By Questlove. I’m a big music lover and like Questlove but I couldn’t get into the book. This book was part of the “Big Library Read” which connect readers with the same book at the same time with no wait lists or holds. I read the preface and the first chapter but had to stop and listen to the music he wrote about, then got distracted, and realized I would never get finished.
