Quilty Thursday
I think I just might have lost my quilting mojo.
I really thought I’d be all caught up with the Moda Block Heads 3 today. And show you all the happy new colorful blocks.
Nope.
Block 26, Zig Zags by Janet Clare was a hot mess. I was really disappointed with how it turned out and I have no idea what I did wrong! The bottom row was so far off, that I ripped it out and restitched it. But…..it had some snags from being ripped out. (I might have been a bit over zealous!) And the points were still off.
Could this block be saved? The size is 6 3/4″ wide by 6″ long. What? This is supposed to be 6 1/2″ unfinished. A square! Then I realized that I had only done 5 rows rather than 6 which really made it waaaaaay off.
I was actually looking forward to doing this block because I like Half Square Triangles. I even designed and made an entire HST quilt for Jes and Andrew a few years ago.
I have this really cool “Quilt in a Day” Triangle Square Up Ruler that makes perfect HSTs. While the HSTs in block 26 are really small–1 1/2″ unfinished–I thought I was being really accurate. Curses.
Yesterday I started all over with that block. Cause I hate to admit defeat. Especially to a bunch of bits of fabric.
But. I lost not only the mojo. But the drive. Maybe next week. Sad face.
I’ve got LOTS of other projects that I’m working on. Like my Christmas quilt that I’m making with all hand-stitched hexies. That is going well. (So maybe I just lost the machine-piecing mojo.)
And I pulled my Tell me a Story quilt out of storage. This has got to be my oldest UFO. I think I started it back in 2017. I don’t like unfinished projects but this quilt and I have had some issues.
I quit working on it after the face of the first fairy disintegrated while I embroidering her features. I was very sad.
So back in June, I did some machine-stitching around all the fairies and their wings and followed that up with more hand-embroidery a few weeks ago. I also just received some bright metallic embroidery threads from DMC that I hope to use around the wings. Then on to the bunnies!
Also wanted to tell you about the Partners in Design QAL by the Sea. I’ve done two of their QALs and they were lots of fun. DIL Lauri has these two quilts.
I want to do this one, too, but do not have the fabric and am already behind on so many other projects! (And I do have a busted knee–do you want to hear anymore of my lame excuses?) So I’m downloading each block to use at a later date. I think the first two would be absolutely adorable on totes or dishtowels.
Right?
It’s a free QAL, you just need to join the FB group, Partners in Design, Where Friends and Fabric Meet. The designers’ blog posts are all full of great information on how to make each block. Very educational!
Okay. That’s it for this week. Hoping to get my machine-piecing mojo back by next week!
