Quilty Progress — Lucy
Okay quilty friends, I have a finished quilt top!
Last week I left you with the 12 Star blocks that I had completed. I finally put up a temporary design wall in my future sewing space which I’m now referring to as the “third bay of the shop”. Gotta say, I have put up my design walls over the years and I had quite the struggle with this one. I’m not quite sure what the walls are made of. I typically can hang it up with thumb tacks. I used nails. And a hammer. And still struggled. (I have a lot of stuff left to hang, think I will be asking for help!)
Anyhow….
Here’s the 12 blocks I finished last week.
Then I came up with a new design that was more the size that I wanted. I started changing up the “rock star” quilt. I really wanted to keep the “Irish Chain” in there but it just wasn’t working. When I twisted my HSTs around a bit and came up with a diamond shape I knew it was PERFECT! It will finish at 64″ x 80″. Still large but quiltable on my domestic machine.
And I’m calling it Lucy. I don’t know any Lucy’s. Except my neighbor in Florida had a beagle named Lucy who ran the neighborhood. She was very sweet. But as I was putting the pics together for the design, I kept humming “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.” I knew that was her name. Lucy.
Terry and I went out to get some snaps of the quilt top in the “wild”.
Ha! It’s almost always windy here in North Dakota. We are trying to get used to it. But the outdoor shot was a total failure.
I then tried to put the quilt top on my temporary design wall which I made with flannel. And it wouldn’t stick. Think I’m going back to using batting!
Can’t stop me!
I thumb tacked it onto my dining room wall. The colors are so happy and I think it is very summery looking.
I’ll be leaving Lucy on the dining room wall for awhile. I love seeing her as I walk through the kitchen! It just brightens everything up!
Some details…..I used 3 yards of Starry from Ruby Star Society. Out of the four charm packs I purchased, I used 128 charms. Three of the charm packs had 42 charms each, and the fourth had 85. All the charm packs were from Kona. I have 83 charms left. (Not sure what I’ll do with all of those!)
I have batting but still need to purchase binding and backing and I plan to check out a local quilt shop in Bismarck for those. If I have to order them, it may be a few weeks before I can finish the quilt.
Fortunately, while I am waiting, I have a beautiful bunch of fabric all ready to be cut up for my next quilt.
Happy face and Happy dance!
