Quilty Progress
I thought I would be posting about my latest quilty finish today, Baby Rock Star 2.
Here’s what it looked like at the end of last week.
I had it all stitched together and basted.
I quilted diagonally across all of the stars plus stitched in the ditch horizontally and vertically on the top and bottoms of the rows of stars. I had just finished sewing the binding on the back of the quilt and was wonder clipping it over to the front when I found that one of the seams wasn’t stitched on one of the star points. I am still pondering how this could have happened. The stitch marks are there and even thread but the seam isn’t closed. I was at first dismayed and then a little angry. How could I have missed it? Not only did I have to stitch the seams together, I pressed them open and then measured each of these blocks to make sure that they were exactly 4 1/2 inches. Could the thread be bad? I use Aurifil for piecing and quilting and that’s good stuff. Could my machine have an issue?
It doesn’t matter how it happened. There it was–a gaping 2″ hole. I pondered all of my options. Rip out the binding, unpick the quilting, then rip out that small block and fix it, then put it all back together? Scheesch, I might as well just start all over. I ended up hand stitching the open seam with a ladder stitch then did more quilting in the ditch horizontally and vertically on all of those HSTs that make up the star points. And I’m considering doing more quilting. Because, although I have checked EVERY seam again, there could be another weak seam hiding.
This is where I left it. Back at it tomorrow!
Fortunately, the baby shower that I am making this for isn’t until next weekend! I should have it finished by then.
