Quilty Progress
I’ve really moved forward on my three unfinished quilts this week. (Also referred to as UFOs–unfinished objects!)
The first Moda Blockheads 3 is quilted, the front of the binding is attached. Just doing the hand stitching to finish up!
For me, the last step before binding is the label. I usually put the month and year and stitch it into a corner on the back. Was a little indecisive as to when it would actually get finished. I think I could have had it completed before the end of May, but I have other projects that I’m working on so went with June. Now I’ve got a whole month to do that slow sewing!
I bought a queen size bed for the second guestroom and it needs a quilt! This was the grandkids’ bedroom until recently. Had a daybed with a trundle in there–along with a twin-sized cot tucked into the closet. The toys were kept in this room, too.
It was such a cute room. Sadly, the grandkids outgrew the room and the toys so I’ve given most of the stuff away. (Riley’s 20 and Courtney is 18! How did that happen? The other six are teens or they think they are!) Time to move on!
Anyhow. I laid out my second Moda Blockheads 3 quilt on the new bed since that’s where I want to put the quilt!
There will be five rows of 12″ blocks and four rows of 6″. There will also be a fourth column of 12″ blocks. They are over there on that chair. The bed top just wasn’t big enough to lay them all out. But this gives me an idea to work with.
My third UFO is the “Tell me a Story” quilt.
From way back when I started this project I had intended to make two quilts. The first for a night time story and the second for a day time version. Indecisive, once again, I had no idea what I would do with them. The first is too big for a wall hanging. 39″ x 72″ without borders. But I really didn’t want to use them on beds or just stick them in a closet. A few days ago I told myself to think outside the box. And I did! I might even have dreamt this. But they will now be curtains for this room!
I keep reading on Instagram that quilters are using their quilts for coats and totes. Why not curtains? I’m sure there are plenty of quilts that have already been used for this purpose. There is a large street light that shines into this window. The current curtains, which I made a very long time ago, do not block that illumination. I think with batting and backing, the quilts will work perfectly! And they will be unique! Now I need to start designing the day time side! (There will be at least one rabbit and some butterflies!)
Like I mentioned earlier, I am working on some other projects. Hope to share them with you next week!
Have a great holiday weekend!
