Quilty Progress
While I was waiting for the next Moda Blockheads 3 quilt block to come out, I was looking for fabrics to start another scrappy times quilt. I keep most of my fabrics sorted by colors in different bins in my sewing room. But I ventured into the grandkids closet because sometimes fabric sneaks in there.
I found a quilt kit that I hadn’t even started. I wasn’t crazy about the pattern but the fabric was amazing!
Then I really got distracted and decided to clean out the entire closet to see what I could see. Besides the finished quilts and bags I store in there, I found toys, kid clothes, suits and blazers, lovely dresses. All not touched in YEARS! (also discovered one spider–now deceased) And then I looked at that room with all it’s cute grandkid theme and moved on to breaking down the entire room and proclaiming that “This will now be my exercise room!”
Many hours went into breaking things down and clearing them out. Unfortunately all that stuff is now in my dining room because the thrift stores are all closed. But since I can’t have guests during this “stay at home” period, I’m certainly not using the dining room!
Like I said, I was distracted. But I did get some quilting done in the last few weeks. (although not as much as usual)
I continued on the Moda Blockheads 3 quilt-a-long and started another scrappy times quilt! This one is the Norah Quilt from Sunny Day Supply. It’s not really a quilt-a-long, she just gives suggestions and examples. (it’s free!) If you are on Instagram you can find many many Norah quilts under #norahquilt. It’s basically a log cabin quilt with an offset center.
Here’s my center:
And then the logs go around the center in the traditional manner. Here’s the quilt after one week.
And yesterday.
I really thought I’d be done with the quilt top by today. But finding all the fabric, overthinking which color and print to use and where, cutting it into strips and then squaring it up after stitching each log down took a lot more time than I expected!
And there was that distraction! (but the room is so clean and empty)
The quilt is 35″ square right now. I’m not quite sure how big it is supposed to be. And should I keep it square? Do I add borders to the top and bottom so it’s a rectangle? What happens if I run out of a color? So many questions!
Sunny Day Supply suggests that the quilt should be hand-quilted. Not sure if I’m up to that!
Hopefully next week I’ll have answers to all my questions and the top will be done!
