Pretty Apron from Sew4Home.com
I try to do simple projects at the weekly Sew Cool! Workshop at the Old Homosassa Learning Center because there is a lot of chattering (that would be me and my friends) and I also need to be able to drop everything if any sewists need help. I have a hard time concentrating with all that going on. So easy peasy it has to be!
This really great fabric was donated to the workshop and it reminds me of the cabbage rose wallpaper that was popular back in the 50s. I thought it would be perfect for an apron–kind of like what Anthropologie sells. (I love aprons!)
I turned to another one of my favorite sewing websites, Sew4Home.com and decided to make their Floral Apron with Curved Skirt and Button Accents .You can just about find anything you could possibly want to make on Sew4Home.com. For Free!
I didn’t have enough of the fabric to make the entire apron since I split it with one of sewing workshop coaches. (it was a very popular piece of pretty!) I was able to find a few coordinating pinkish pieces in my own fabric stash. So my apron isn’t exactly what Sew4Home.com did. Plus I use my Bernina in the sewing workshop and it doesn’t like to do embroidery stitches so, other than the pockets, no embroidery. Then I decided to stitch my ties down rather than hold them on with buttons. Mostly because when I went out shopping for buttons I said. Zowie! Six fun buttons are a lot of money! Anyhow, I think it’s quite cute sans buttons. One last change I made was there was some hand-stitching in the instructions but I decided to just top-stitch with the sewing machine. This way the apron could be worn either way!
I have to admit this apron was taking me way longer than it should have. It really is easy peasy and the instructions from Sew4Home.com are excellent. During one session no one needed help and everyone was busy with their own projects so I had no one to talk to and decided to get that apron done. And I couldn’t find the Sew4Home.com tutorial. I was linking the right spot but it wasn’t coming up. Yikes! I had most of it done and could probably figure out how to do the rest but decided to pack it up and return to it some other day.
And last Thursday was that day. I went out and tested the link and it worked! Yeah! So I printed the instructions out just in case it disappeared again! Yeah, I know, I should have done that in the first place!
I got the apron finished just in time! Daughter Jes, her husband Andrew, and son Darin were visiting for the weekend. So we had a dinner party! Jes was in charge of the veggie tray. She needed an apron!
I think that Jes is doing a happy dance here because she loves the new apron so much!
Ohhhhh, maybe crazy dance!
And it’s reversible! Jes is looking doubtful!
Cook with one side on and then reverse it to serve! Always fresh and clean!
After all that modeling, she did get that veggie tray done!
I plan on making this apron again. It was truly easy and I just got some new beautiful fabric that I want to use to update my kitchen linens.
How pretty is this???
