Pom Pom Wreath
I’m hosting a Galentines Dinner and I’m updating my Valentines decor. The heart strips quilt is on the wall and I have heart pillows spread about. But, of course, I need more!
How about a POM POM WREATH?
I’ve had these metal wreath forms for a few years. I bought them at Dollar Tree to make a couple of Christmas Pom Pom wreaths. (So often I buy the supplies but don’t actually do the project) I finally started working on it this year but only because the ladies in the “Sew Cool & Crafty” workshop wanted to learn how to make Pom Poms.
I use Clover Pom Pom makers.* yeah, I know, I’ve heard it many times, I can make Pom Poms with a fork or make my own cardboard templates. But I gotta tell you, I’ve tried the DIY methods. The Clover makers are EASY PEASY and the Poms are fluffier than floofy. I ordered most of mine from Amazon except I believe I bought the giant maker from Hobby Lobby. One of the ladies in the workshop ordered a set of makers but they weren’t the Clover brand and they were REALLY flimsy. I gotta recommend the Clover makers.
So we had several crafters making pom poms in our “Sew Cool and Crafty” Workshop. One made hers Poms in bright colors as bag tags for her luggage, another lady wanted to make one for the end of her knitted stocking hat plus garland for her office. I started out making red ones for my Christmas wreath but realized I wasn’t going to get it finished before that holiday so the rest of the pom poms were pink or white for Valentines. (If I’d started making green poms for Christmas, I’d probably be posting next month about my St. Paddy’s Wreath!)
Pom poms are easy peasy. But they take a lot more time than I expected. Especially the giant size. Plus there’s a lot of yarn in each one. I bought the cheapest yarn possible at Walmart—no alpaca strands here!
I tied them down with yarn on one of the metal rows on the wreath form but they were so floppy. Not the look I was going for. Then I reattached them by tying them to all three rows of metal. Followed that up with a bunch of small poms and secured them with yarn too. Cramming them close together worked.
Anyhow, here is the final wreath.
And the back (a hot mess!)
I wanted to hang it on the entry way mirror. It’s impossible to get a straight on shot of a project on a mirror without it turning into a selfie!
So here’s some sideways views!
Hope you aren’t tired of Valentines-themed craftiness cause I have a couple more to share in the weeks to come!
