Perfect Picnic Quilt SAL–Week 1
I thought I already had made the perfect picnic quilt earlier this year.
But…..The Ruby Star Society is also calling their Summer Sew Along the Perfect Picnic Quilt.
So I’ll have two!
Ruby Star Society started their Summer Sew Along on Monday. The first week is just about cutting the fabric and posting on #RSSsummersewalong.
All of my fabric is from Ruby Star Society but from different lines. The white background is from “Hole Punch Dot”, The butterscotch gingham in the lower left corner is from “Food Group”, the pink with yellow letters next to the gingham is from a line they produced in 2019–“Anagram”–which I had in my stash, and the rest is from their new “Strawberry & Friends” line.
I ordered from two different vendors on Etsy along with the Fat Quarter Shop. As usual, the Etsy stores had the fabric sent out ASAP. Fat Quarter Shop took over a week to arrive. I still need to get fabric for the binding and the backing. I just haven’t decided which Ruby Star Society fabric I’ll be using. I like to wait until the quilt top is done before choosing either.
I ordered more fabric than was required by the pattern. I want to make a wall hanging that will be a smaller version of this quilt. I will also use some of it in the Norah Quilt that I’ll soon be starting. And I love the “Strawberry and Friends” so much, I think it will really be fun for the lining of pouches and totes.
I put some of the squares on my design wall which isn’t big enough to hold them all. The final version will be 15 blocks wide and long. Here I could only squeeze in 9 blocks by 10. But it gave me some idea of what it will look like.
So that’s it for this quilt for this week. Next up, building the blocks and piecing.
