Pencil Pouches
Pencil pouches are a wonderful scrap buster plus they make great gifts. (And they are easy-peasy once you get the hang of them)
I made these for two teenagers a few years ago for Christmas.
Scalloping is a big deal here in Old Homosassa. Therefore, I added scallop shell appliques.
The girls LOVED them!
I made these for my two North Dakota granddaughters.
For the pouch on the left, I used some of my precious Ruby Star Society’s “Strawberry & Friends”. My smallest granddaughter snatched it right up! The fabric on the right is from Tula Pink. I quilted the exterior fabric before cutting it to size.
I love these colorful zippers and matched the fabric with them.
The zipper should be 1″ shorter than the width of the fabric. By adding the tabs on the ends of this zipper, it was 10″. So I made the width of the pouch 11″ and the height was 8″. I boxed them to 1 1/2″.
I’m not adding a tutorial for the pouches. I have in the past. I initially learned how to make the lined pouch on Purl Soho. I’ve watched a lot of videos and read many blogs since those first pouches and I think they get better with each one I make.
I used the free tutorial for the wristlet on Sotak Handmade. She has several Youtube videos, too. I highly recommend them. I really like this one: How to Shorten a Nylon Zipper. Noodlehead also has a free pencil pouch tutorial but I have not tried that one yet.
I like to put small gifts in the pouches. These got markers, colored pencils, a mini lego, and candy.
