The Backpack—week one

Posted on January 30, 2025 by Kathy GreenJanuary 29, 2025
got your back, backpack, by annie, juki

I should be done with this project. There should be NO week one. There should be FINISHED! But I’ve been procrastinating. For no reason. This is the first time I have made a “ByAnnie” bag. Rather than canvas, her bags are quilted onto cotton fabric and “Soft ‘n Stable”. This gives a nice structure but I’m not sure how quilting … ….oh there’s more

Finally, a Sewing Machine and Projects

projects byannie backpack

Yes. I have a sewing machine. Finally. It’s not the one I ordered. But it’s the one that was delivered–a week after the promised date. And after pulling all the staples out of the box. And pulling the packing tape off of the straps And cutting the straps And then cutting more packing tape. And pulling more staples. And struggling … ….oh there’s more

heart pillow LOVE

Have you joined in on any Quilt-A-Longs (QALs)? If you want to improve your piecing skills, QALs are fabulous! I did the Splendid Sampler from Pat Sloan and Jane Davidson back in 2016. It ran for a year. One block a week, except I started late and made three blocks a week until I caught up. You can do a … ….oh there’s more

heart strips quilt

My sewing and crafty feeds on Instagram are FULL of Valentines ideas and projects. Last week I received an email asking about the log cabin heart block that I designed. I quickly searched through my blog for all the links and sent them to her. Then she emailed me back–thank you but the quilt she wanted to create was on … ….oh there’s more

2024 Ends and 2025 Begins

In a heart beat on day bed

I’m not making any resolutions this year. Well, other than celebrating my birthday as often as possible. 2024 was a year of change. Sold our house of 20 years—left Florida where I had first moved to in 1982. Back to the cold white North. Did I mention that during my move from Florida to North Dakota that I gave almost … ….oh there’s more

It’s my Birthday…

Posted on December 26, 2024 by Kathy GreenDecember 25, 2024 4

And I’ll cry if I want to….. Just kidding…. I don’t feel like crying. I love birthdays. When I turned 50 I threw my own party. We had fireworks. And lots of lasagna and chocolate cake. I celebrated the entire month of December when I hit 60. When I turned 64 I was in a little jam band and we … ….oh there’s more

tea towels and mug rugs

Although you may think it is too late to work on Christmas projects, I whipped these up in ND the week before I left for DC. You can do it! I make a hand crafted gift every year for friends and family. Due to the heating going out in my sewing studio and getting ready for our move to DC, … ….oh there’s more

Our first week in DC

Lucy in Dc, Athena and Christmas Quilts

We made it to DC. Me, Terry, and the cat. Along with a couple of suitcases. While we were here for a couple of weeks in November to get some organization to the chaos, there is still so much more to do! But I’m up for the task! After my daughter and family picked us up at the airport, we … ….oh there’s more

Quilty thoughts

Posted on December 5, 2024 by Kathy GreenDecember 4, 2024 2

Last week I pulled the Lucy quilt out. Last time you saw her, she looked like this. I thought I’d be able to get some quilting done before I left for DC. So I started table basting her, and the heater in my sewing studio gave a gasp, coughed out some dirt, and died. (A couple of the blocks got … ….oh there’s more

fall into a qal

OMG! It’s Thanksgiving! I love THANKSGIVING. Especially all the traditional yummy food. And spending time with family. This year we will be with the North Dakota family. Lauri, Alan, Riley, Piper, and Adley. Of course, Athena will be hanging with us, too. I made that stuffed felt turkeys several years ago. I’ve sewn it back together many times since Athena … ….oh there’s more
