Our first week in DC
We made it to DC. Me, Terry, and the cat. Along with a couple of suitcases.
While we were here for a couple of weeks in November to get some organization to the chaos, there is still so much more to do!
But I’m up for the task!
After my daughter and family picked us up at the airport, we immediately bought a Christmas tree. We have our priorities. And it’s a big one. I had planned on getting the table top size but the kids had other ideas. I now have a six foot tree in the corner where I will one day have a dining table. (I guess that will happen after Christmas!) I had left most of most Christmas decorations in North Dakota but there were a few boxes that I had shipped to my daughter months ago and I was able to scrounge up enough decorations to make the place a little more festive.
Besides trying to make our little condo into a home, on the sewing front I’m still considering which sewing machine to purchase and am thinking about where I will set up a sewing corner. I really NEED to get back into stitching and I’m starting with “Lucy”, a quilt that I pieced earlier this year. I was able to squeeze her into my suitcase along with some of my hand sewing supplies by leaving a few pairs of jeans behind. (Guess I’ll have to buy new!)
Waiting for me at the condo was my order from DMC with thread for hand quilting–eight spools of Pearle Cotton thread in size 8. DMC threw in TWO magnetic needle minders—I shouldn’t be losing any needles on this project.
It will probably take me the rest of 2024 and the first quarter of 2025 to finish the slow stitching but I have no deadlines and Lucy will keep me warm while pushing that needle through the layers. I’m starting right in the center of the quilt and I’m planning to begin on her tonight!
I’ve got a couple of Christmas sewing projects that I’ll post about next week. And then it’s CHRISTMAS. Can’t believe it’s already almost here. Scheesch, I actually bought Christmas cards to send but they are still sitting in the shopping tote and I have done no gift shopping!
Fortunately I have lots of Christmas quilts to keep us warm and a Christmas tree to keep me in the holiday spirit.
