One more about the rabbits
During one of the recent Sew Cool! Workshop sessions, one of the women asked me what I do with all the softies I sew. I pondered that for a bit because I’ve made a lot over the years. Sharks, mermaids, dolls–and a lot of rabbits. But–until I started my recent softie obsession–I only had one creature in stock.
It seems that as quickly as I make them, a child shows up, and I can’t send them home empty handed!
For instance…..
My sweet granddaughter Piper from North Dakota came to visit me for a week.
Back in April 2014 I fell down the rabbit hole for the first time and spent several weeks making bunnies. Eight rabbits for our four younger grandkids. They were based on Sew4Home.com’s “Lil Softee Pal: Chocolate Bunny”.
Which I forgot about until Piper pulled out her two rabbits from her backpack last week. Five years later and the rabbits are still playable! I have to admit that they did get new pom pom tails and button eyes on one of my trips to ND. I think there might have been some seams that I repaired, too. But they held up pretty well considering that Piper has been playing with them for five years!
After Piper presented me with the Easter bunnies, I had to do a search to see if I had posted about them.
And I did, if you’d like to check it out, here’s the link: DIY Easter Bunnies.
I also made some cats based on the same pattern in November that same year.
Tom the cat was also in the backpack. (Angela, the white cat, did not get to come along this time!)
Then I showed Piper all of the new bunnies that I made in the past few weeks. Her favorites were Mandi and George! She particularly approved of George’s stuffing with the poly pellets and poly fil.
Piper decided that Mandi and George probably wanted to live in North Dakota with her.
And while she didn’t really like the jointed bunnies, Pinky and Daphne would be acceptable for her little sister Adley.
And that’s why I don’t ever have any extra softies lying around!
