Nesting Tables, Updated, Upscaled, and Updazzled
I’ve had these little tables for many many many years. Got them at Cost Plus World Market when we had a place in Houston. (Love that store and we don’t have any in the Tampa Bay area)
I always wanted to put a glass mosaic top on them. Something unique. Something I created myself.
I painted the tables white.
Moved them to the sun room.
Sun Room. Florida. Means very hot room in the summer. The little lamp I had on the larger table actually melted onto the top. (I’ve also had a rug in there just disintegrate because it got so hot.)
Whoops!
Just gave me an excuse to finally do that original glass mosaic. Moved the tables into my garage to await my artistic interpretation. That was back last Winter.
And then I decided I really wasn’t into original glass mosaics anymore. I actually have to cut up glass and I have a fear of cutting my fingers. There goes the music career.
(Just kidding, I don’t have a music career but I do play the banjo and piano and cut fingers leave little bloody imprints while I play)
I looked around at Home Depot for glass mosaic that had a little shine and I found this mosaic with stainless bits. And some metallic paint from Martha Stewart.
The mosaic tile was expensive so I found another similar tile that was the same height and mixed them up. Just cut up the rows and put two cheap rows down, then one expensive row.
Some primer, a couple coats of gray paint, a little antiquing with Martha’s metallic paint and glaze.
Used Weldbond to glue on the mosaic tile,
taped off the painted sections and then put on premixed grout.
Just a little note here. The premixed grout does not say anything about being “sanded”. I usually use unsanded grout and mix it myself for my mosaics. (Okay, actually Terry mixes it up cause it really hurts my wrist. Wah!) But the pre-mixed grout scratched the stainless steel pieces so it had to have sand in there. A little disappointing but I know they’ll get scratched eventually. We get a lot of company and have a bunch of grandkids. It’s just a matter of time before scratches, nicks and gouges show up anyhow!
Voila!
