Negative Space Quilt
Very excited that I finally have this quilt finished.
It was fun to make and really turned out bright and happy!
Blueprint/Craftsy had a special on this quilt kit by Angela Waters for such a low price I couldn’t pass it up. My daughter Jes had asked me to make her a wall hanging for the guest bedroom wall. You might remember I made her this quilt and I was supposed to make her a smaller one so she could use it for a wall hanging.
I thought this was perfect.
As you can see from the above picture of Angela Waters holding the quilt, it’s supposed to have a background of gray but I thought Jes would like a white background better and I just happened to have two yards of white quilting fabric in my stash. (I already have plans for the gray!)
I added a sleeve on the back for a curtain rod.
Mistakes were made! (I think I’ll just start a subheading every time I post with that title!)
I always wash my fabric before I use it although I have read several times that you really don’t need to. I just do not want to put all that work into a quilt and then have the vivid colors bleed into the white. Well, all those bright colors are from a “jelly roll” which is a bunch of strips of fabric that are 2 1/2″ x 44″. Those strips of fabric FRAYED and shrunk. What a mess. Bits of colorful string and fluff everywhere. (The lint roller moved from the laundry room to the sewing room!) Plus I had to adjust the pattern to take into account that the strips were now 2 1/4″ wide so the quilt is smaller than it should be. Decided that in the future, I’ll cut my own strips from my pre-washed fabric!
Then when I started squaring up the quilt after all the stitching was done, it got even smaller! Yikes!
But…..it’s supposed to be a wall hanging. So smaller could be better. (I do like to look at the bright side whenever possible!)
Even with all that, I love it. But it’s going away! (How many quilts do I need?) Good bye to all that prettiness!
Ending on a happy note here, I have enough of those bright strips left to make another quilt! (I’ve already started stitching them together.) And I have the gray fabric for the background! Maybe a little larger quilt for a bed. Another Win-Win!

I love this one…. Maybe it will get me away from circles!
Glad you like it Lauri! There might be something similar in your guest suite in the future!
Beautiful! Can’t wait to see it hanging! ( if those two ever stay home)
Terry
Hi Terry! I know. I thought I would personally deliver the quilt and show them how to hang it but they don’t seem to stay home much!
How do I purchase this pattern?
I did a quick google search and found it on Craftsy. It’s free. Here is the link: https://www.craftsy.com/post/negative-space-quilt/
