More Quilty Progress
I have become borderline obsessed with getting my four unfinished quilts FINISHED! None are complete yet….but I’ve made real progress.
First I want to chat a little about the Sew Cool Workshop. This was a really fun program at the Old Homosassa Learning Center. Somedays we would have three women. Others times 15. We didn’t have any set projects. Just a bunch of women that got together and sewed. Last March I shut the learning center down due to the pandemic. We have slowly been reopening and last Thursday was the first session of the new “Sew Cool & Crafty” workshop. We had four sewists and one knitter. It was fun getting back together.
Anyhow. One of the women, “Quilty Cathy” we call her, is also doing the Moda BlockHeads 3 QAL! She brought her quilt in. I didn’t get very good pics. Should have had someone tall stand up and hold it for me. Maybe she’ll bring it back to the next workshop and I’ll retake the snaps. Anyhow, here’s the quilt top. (Still needs to be basted, quilted, and bound) So Pretty! Love her fabric and color choices!
I’m making two quilts out of the 56 blocks from the Moda Blockheads 3 QAL. This is the first one and I started out quilting it by doing a simple “stitch in the ditch” around each block. More quilting to come!
I kinda like it alot!
My second Moda Blockheads 3 quilt is on my temporary design wall. It’s staying there until I get these other three quilts finished.
I also pieced together the “Scrapping Times 3″ quilt top. This one took forever. Thirty rows of thirty blocks. Nine-hundred 2 1/2 ” unfinished blocks. FOREVER. Seriously.
I was going for an “ombre” look. Starting with light colors on the top and working down to the bottom with darker bits. All the pieces include denim from my hoard.
And the last quilt top I finished was my “Tell me a Story” quilt. I have been working on this since 2017. This is a night-time tale of rabbits in the dark. (I had planned to make one for day-time, too. But that was four years ago!) It started out with fairies bedazzling the bunnies but my appliqued fairies disintegrated when I tried to embroider them. I next considered lighting bugs but couldn’t come up with any ideas that I liked. Then I thought about moths since they are also out at night and did a lot of searching and found this paper-pieced pattern from LillyElla Stitchery. I would have paid for this pattern but it was FREE!
I had despaired of ever finishing this quilt. And I love it! Only six more days of National Quit Month. I think I can at least get one of these finished!
