Moda BlockHeads 3, Blocks 16, 17, and 18
The Moda Spotted Fabric I ordered finally arrived. Yeah! And I quickly made the next three Moda Blockhead 3 blocks. I almost made the block that came out yesterday but just ran out of time. (I know, what else do I have to do???)

I’m mixing the sizes of my blocks up a little. The ones I think might be easy, I make in 6″ size. The more difficult I’m doing in 12″ size. Planning to put 5 large blocks and two small blocks stacked in each row. Brigette Heitland (Zen Chic) is one of the designers in this quilt-a-long and I’m using her fabric line along with her color suggestions. Well, not completely. I’m using a lot more white than she does on her blocks. And I haven’t always had the fabric colors that she uses. So I’m substituting here and there.
Sherri McConnell created Block 16, Dream. I made this one in a 6″ size. Just looking at this picture now, I realized I might have lost a few points. Maybe I should have made this block in 12″ size!

Block 17 is Crossroads from Betsy Chutchian. She had a good tip for creating all those flying geese. She suggested cutting the squares and triangles 1/8″ bigger than the pattern calls for. Then trim it down to the correct size. I have had issues with flying geese being a little wonky and this tip worked!

I was really excited about block 19, Bird and Urn, from Jan Patek. (I seem to get excited easily while stuck at home with little other diversion!)

It had a bird which I decided needed to be blue because…..
the first block Jan Patek designed for this quilt was a bird and I made it blue! Two blue birds on this quilt. Each designer should be coming out with two more blocks on this quilt-a-long so I’m hoping her next two blocks have birds on them, too.

I liked the first block she designed so much that I made it into a songbird on a beer bag!

Two pretty bluebirds!

And all the bright and colorful blocks so far in no particular order!

Eighteen down–38 to go! If you are interested in creating any of these blocks or following the quilt-a-long, you can go to Moda BlockHead 3 Archives where all the links are stored.
