Moda BlockHeads 3, Blocks 13, 14, and 15
This week I did blocks 13, 14, and 15 from the Moda BlockHeads 3 quilt-a-long.
I’ve had such a hard time making decisions over the past six weeks. I’ve been overthinking everything which makes my quilting past time not as much fun. More like work than a hobby. Lately I’ve been drawing the blocks and coloring them in on graph paper which has helped!
Thirteen is paper pieced so I colored the pieces in on the paper pattern.
On block 14, I decided to get a little colorful.
I wasn’t sure if I liked the color combo I picked for block 15 but when I stitched it all together, I loved it!
I mentioned on Tuesday that I ordered some fabric from the Fat Quarter Shop. I did a reality check on this quilt. I am going to run out of fabric. If I had made the blocks in 6″ finished size, I would have been fine. But. I didn’t. I went with a mixture of 12″ and 6″. I’m already almost out of the white. So decided I needed to get more but it was on backorder. Fat Quarter Shop emailed me when it was back in stock and I immediately ordered four more yards. That should be plenty. And since I have to pay for shipping, I also ordered four more 1/2 yards of the spotted fabric. That was on the 23rd. It still hasn’t shipped! Very unusual for this vendor. Or perhaps it’s time for me to realize that this is another one of our new normals.
I have been playing around with the final layout. This is my most recent thought….
With five 12″ blocks and two 6″ blocks on each row would give me a 66″ width. I would need seven rows for a twin quilt for a 84″ length. In the future I plan to make all the easy blocks in the 6″ size. I’ll need 49 blocks for one quilt. This Moda BlockHeads 3 is 56 blocks. Think I’ll be making some matching pillows!
