#MeMadeMay2022
I’m not much into social media–with the exception of Instagram. I was drawn to it because it is mainly photographs with some hashtags and brief descriptions. More recently it has turned into a video reels. Haven’t jumped into that yet. My user name, designsktg, is public. Which means I get a lot weird people following me. Kinda scary but I don’t put a lot of personal stuff on my profile so I’m not too worried about it. Just can’t figure out why all of these men are following a senior citizen that quilts. Big shrug here.
Anyhow, last year I noticed lots of hashtags for Me-Made-May but didn’t really follow up on it. Meanwhile….this year I’ve been thinking about making my own clothes. Just thinking. Haven’t actually done it yet. When I noticed the same hashtag this year I thought I’d check it out. There is actually a podcast which I listened to–checkyourthread.com and the episode is #36. I learned from the podcast that Me-Made-May isn’t about taking a picture of yourself everyday in your new “me made outfit”, rather it’s a pledge to wear your “me made clothes” so many times a week. And mixing them up. Figuring out what you are comfortable in. What you should be making.
I won’t be doing #MeMadeMay2022 because I only have two dresses that are “me made”. And I did that several years ago so all of the following photos are from long ago.
Both dresses were experiments with sewing with knits. The first one, I couldn’t get the hem to hang right and kept cutting it off, it’s so short that I only wear it to bed. Or Yoga.
I think my granddaughter drew this picture of us when I showed her this dress. You will note that I definitely have a short outfit on!
On the second dress I sort of conquered the hemline and still wear it occasionally. It’s kinda cute.
I also made a pair of boxer shorts. They are “Hello Kitty” and match the ones I made my granddaughter.
Not enough me-made clothes to get me through the month! (But I am going to find those “Hello Kitty” shorts!)
I do want to start making my own clothes. I don’t like shopping. I buy clothes online and then usually don’t like them but don’t return them. I keep them. Wear them. Don’t feel comfortable in them. Therefore, my Me-Made Pledge for this year is to start making clothes for me. And figure out what I like and what I do not like.
And I’m starting that as soon as I get my current quilt done. Which could be any day now!

Ah, love the picture with you and Piper. That seems so long ago.
