Meandering for a Tuesday
Wondering how everyone is feeling right about now…..
Thought I’d share what is going on with me. And my family. And throw some pics in from my yard in the last few days.
If you know me, you know that I’m an extrovert that is always busy. Enjoying my life with my friends and family and community. Ready for an adventure at a moments notice.
I should be crawling the walls. But. Nope. I had a bit of trouble getting my ducks in the row when the “self-isolation” started but I’m back at it. Miss all of my friends and all of the kids and the learning center. But I’m quickly adapting to our new “normal”. I’m still busy. Still have way too many projects and too little time.
Because, You know what? We will get through this!!!!
Have to say, I was worried about the local kids getting food. We live in a community that has very poor people and fairly wealthy retirees. Most of the kids at the school get free lunches and breakfast and sent home backpacks of food for the weekend.
The school guidance councilor is also concerned. So we reached out to her. Turns out, the school is also running the food bank that the local church formally ran. The volunteers at the church were all senior citizens–those that shouldn’t be exposed to the virus. Right now the Homosassa Civic Club (my husband is pres and I’m the first lady) is working on getting money for food for the kids and the food bank. It has to be gift cards to our local stores. The civic club will be making a large donation as will many of the members. We will be picking up gift cards today. The school staff will go out and buy the non-perishable food, toilet paper, paper towels. And reach out to the people in need.
While a few weeks ago I doubted the use of the facemasks- but I continued making them. Now I understand that if EVERYONE wears a facemask–even homemade–the effects of the virus are less. I am not giving them to medical personnel. I am giving them to the people working takeout at restaurants, friends, office workers. When I see those on our local front lines, I hand them out. Our favorite grocery store still does not allow their workers to wear homemade face masks or I would be giving them out there. They are permitted to wear surgical masks. I don’t have surgical masks.
My kids. We text. Facetime. Skype. Zoom.
Jes and her husband Andrew live in DC. The city is totally shut down. WFH. Fortunately Andrew’s sister Pam and her dog Murphy made it from New York state to their place in DC to quarantine with them.
Son Alan in North Dakota is an engineer on the railroad. An essential worker. As is his wife Lauri that works as an occupational therapist. Riley, the oldest grandson, is home from college early and watching the two little granddaughters. Probably none of the kids like that! Life on pause–hard for us–harder for the young ones.
And we continue. Not what we want or thought our life would be like in 2020. But, doing the best we can. With what we have.
I hope you are doing well. I know many people are not.
Do not want to be trite. But. This too shall pass.
My heart is with you.

Glad to hear you are well and thanks for the beautiful flower pictures.
So nice of Jes to make Pam feel so welcome although she did say she talks as much as Andy! Sorry but they have always been talkers since right after they said their first word! Especially early in the morning for Andy-that this specialty (hence his occupation).
All is well with us too.
Stay safe
