Maple Leaf Blocks
I was all ready to get into making new quilty projects with lovely autumnal colors…..
And it snowed! With 50 mph wind gusts and 25 degrees!
Really killed the Fall buzz!
While I’m originally from Western Pennsylvania where we had lots of cold weather, I have lived in the hot humid south for the last 42 years! It’s going to be awhile before I get acclimated to frosty weather again!
Okay. Enough whining. On the bright side, I bought new boots. Warm and cushy with great tread.
Which was a good thing since I had to bust through a drift to get to my sewing studio yesterday. (It was a really small drift but a drift just the same!)
I wanted to make a maple leaf block with my fall Tilda fabric. I went out to Pinterest to get some inspiration. There are SO many different patterns! Even foundation paper pieced. I could make a whole quilt of different leaf styles. But I was hoping to get several done this past week and went with the easiest one.
I based the leaf on a tutorial from The Seasoned Homemaker. I wanted a 12” finished block size with 4″ blocks. This pattern uses four HSTs and I followed the instructions from Beech Tree Lane Handmade to make four at a time.
I finished four blocks and probably have enough fabric to make another four. I considered turning them into a table runner for our Thanksgiving table. (This would be my year for table runners!)
But as much as I want to honor Thanksgiving, all that snow reminded me that I probably need to get busy on handmade Christmas gifts.
Sad to say, these blocks will need to wait until next Fall to be turned into a finished quilty project.

Brrrrr! Not something I miss but pretty pictures!
I don’t think there is any chance that I will ever get used to this!
