Lucy Quilt — Finale
So many Lucy’s out there…..

And now, Lucy the Quilt.
Named for Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. Because this is a quilt with Stars and Diamonds. (Or maybe they are just squares set diagonally.) and I kept humming the Beatles tune the entire time I was piecing her.
(Lucy, the first human, was also named for the song!)
I started Lucy in 2024. With an idea. Then a design. Then reworking the design. And reworking it again.
And here she is.
She came with me from my sewing studio in North Dakota. I had already designed, pieced, and basted her–had to sacrifice a lot of my clothing to fit her into the checked bag!
Once I unpacked, I started hand quilting. Not one of my better skills. Lots of Frankenstein stitches. But overall, I’m happy with the end result.
I even hand embroidered a very simple label.
And did big stitch binding.
Here are ALL the details:
I don’t have a tutorial but this is the diagram that I used. Lots of HSTs.
All of the solid color fabric is from Kona Cotton charm packs.

The background is Starry Mini Starry Multi and the backing is 108″ Starry Wideback Multi. Both are from Ruby Star Society.
The binding is Festive Stripe Cream Metallic from Rifle Paper Company.
I used several different colors of Perle Cotton size 8 from DMC for the hand quilting.
Took Lucy out for a photo session in the park.

I’m keeping Lucy. Right now she is my favorite quilt. Athena loves her, too.The perfect size for napping which is our super power.
And I am just itching to start another quilt! Time to start the design!
