In the Garden

I had planned on posting a recent sewing project today but that fell through for various reasons. Mostly because the link to the free pattern I was using is no longer available. Scheesch. This seems to be happening to me on a regular basis!

While I consider how I continue with that particular project, I thought I’d share some pics from my number two hobby–gardening. But then I started thinking…..is it gardening or photography that’s number two? And what about reading and music? And decorating? Perhaps I can’t put all of my interests in a specific order!

I can’t keep up with all my passions. But today. It’s flowers.

geraniums
Pots of geraniums and coleus. So pretty.
Flowers
Love this planter and the plant. I’ve had this for several years. I give it new potting soil every spring. It keeps rewarding me.
peace lilies
These peace lilies started out as a potted gift when my father passed away. I was doing a lot of traveling at the time and planted them in the shade garden since I wouldn’t be around to care for them inside. They are quite prolific. I’ve moved them to different beds and even given them to a neighbor. They are happy plants nestled under my huge live oaks.
vinca
These vincas grow like weeds! Haven’t planted them in years. They just reseed. And I pull them up like weeds when they start annoying me!
flowers
I have several butterfly plants. Hummingbirds like them too. This is just one of them. But not many butterflies this year. Red wasps are eating the caterpillars as soon as they appear. I tell myself, circle of life. But I sure like butterflies more than those ugly wasps.

Yellow plumeria always bloom first. These yellow beauties have been out for over a month.

This pretty pink just started coming out yesterday. I had a darker reddish pink but it may have been lost in a frost.
Hydrangea
This is an Endless Summer Hydrangea. I bought it in blue many years ago. I’ve tried the additives to make it turn back from pink but there is just so much limestone in our soil, the best I can get is this lovely shade of lavender.
Hydrangea
My niece bought me this Shooting Star hydrangea many years ago. I think she got it at a local grocery store to give to me as a hostess gift. It is amazing and beautiful. Survives frosts. Doesn’t get fungus. Love it.
Hibiscus
This Hibiscus is so beautiful. It’s a huge bush now. Almost a tree. That’s it in the background of the next pic but I took that photo in the morning and all the flowers were closed up.
Caladiums
My white Caladiums come back every year in this spot. I’ve planted them in other areas of the yard with little success. And the lesson is…. Right plant in the right place!
Alamanda
My neighbor gave me this Alamanda several years ago. She dug it up from her yard. I’ve tried to start new plants to give to friends but have had very little success.
Agapanthus
And the final plant is Agapanthus. I love blue. I planted these 8 years ago for my daughter’s wedding that was held in my back yard. Her color was blue. They looked great for the wedding but this is the first year that I’ve had a lot of blooms since then. I’ve also planted four that are the darker blue but only one bloomed and it was kind of whimpy. Hoping in 8 years they will be this beautiful!
