In My Garden
I haven’t been posting about my garden much this summer. The last post I did was in April!
And now I’m going to whine a wee bit.
It’s been a rough year for my flowers. (and me) First the bitter frosts that wiped out my big plumeria along with many other plants in my yard.
Then we decided to put a pool in the back yard which ripped up the paver walkways and the irrigation system. Even in Florida with our tropical afternoon summer showers, I still need a sprinkler occasionally. (The pool is great though!)
But the very worse was the stress fracture in my foot. Which I didn’t know about until after walking on it for two months–I seriously thought it was getting better. But finally gave up and went to a doctor. Don’t even know how I did it but I suspect it was from digging up bushes that had to move to make way for the pool.
So now I’m in a boot which really limits what I can do and where I can go.
Things are looking up, though. One more week in the boot. The paver contractor should be here next week and we found an irrigation guy.
Anyhow…..
Before the temperature hit 90 degrees and the humidity hit 100 percent (which is about 8 am) I took a little stroll through the yard. (Where I could because sand, dew, and this boot don’t mix well)
And was happy to see lots of pretty blooms and bright colors!
This is the trellis.
Two shade areas with caladiums.
Peace Lilies. These guys were dead to the ground after the frosts. Beautiful again.
I didn’t plant these little pretties. I had a huge pot here last year with mandevilla and vinca. Everything died in the frost. Many weeks later I saw little green vinca leaves shooting up. Everywhere. Normally I would have cleaned up all those places and put down mulch because I haven’t been able to grow plants here. The vinca volunteers have taken over and both Terry and I are delighted.
These are all examples of the right plants planted in the right places. Anything that can survive with this much neglect belongs there!
Of course there are lots of areas that I’m not showing–sad bare spots, flourishing weeds, fungus on the hydrangeas, lubber grasshoppers eating lilies, wilted plants that can’t stand the heat.
Probably another four weeks of unbearable heat and humidity. By then I my foot should be strong and I can get back out to the gardens!
