Fall Into a Quilt-A-Long Block 9
Lots of little bits for this Turkey Postage Stamp block.
Yikes.
But as usual, the designer, Karen at Tuna Quilts, Travels and Eats, had excellent instructions and even some hints. I also went out to all the other designers of the Fall into a QAL and checked out their turkeys. They always have great ideas.
The instructions were so good that there were even little labels to attach to the bits of fabric that had to be cut out!
This little 12″ pieced block took me longer then any of the other blocks have in this QAL. Depending on what time I get up and what’s scheduled, I’m usually in my sewing room two to three hours every morning. It’s a nice way to start my day! This turkey took me three of those mornings to finish!
The first was cutting all the bits and pieces. The second I stitched all the Half Square Triangles (HSTs) and trimmed each small piece to 2″ square–64 in all! And on the third morning I stitched the pieces together and then all of the rows.
I really followed the tutorial very closely. The designer suggested to starch all the fabrics and I did that.
Then I set them on a foam core board in the correct order following the diagram in the tutorial.
As I chain stitched the squares together I checked and double-checked.
It really turned out quite nice. I will put a small button on for the eye when I quilt it. I learned from the Splendid Sampler to wait until quilting is done before adding any embellishments!
Only 3 more blocks to go. Good thing cause I’m running out of all those lovely oranges and yellows!
I’m looking forward to seeing the suggested layout for the final quilt in October.
Next Block released on September 19th!
