Deer Head Softie
Terry and I went to visit daughter Jessica and her husband Andrew for a few weeks. While gone, I didn’t do any blogging. I did do some sewing, though. Jes and Andrew both work from home so she assigned me tasks while she was busy in her office.
First was recovering some pillows. I had some help.
This is Whiskey. It’s been awhile since I’ve had any pets around to assist me.
I also made a tree skirt and a table runner. And we made lots of cookies!
On the way home I had plenty of time to check out Pinterest and Etsy and I found this pattern that I liked for a “Faux Taxidermy Deer Head” from Bustle & Sew. I bought the pattern mostly because I didn’t know how to attach the deer head onto the embroidery hoop.
The Glue Gun. Really. I thought it would have to be stitched.
I had some problems making the deer head. Mostly I couldn’t get the gusset to fit the head. It was too long. I read all the review on Etsy and everyone said how easy the pattern was to make….so….it had to be something I was doing wrong. I finally made it work.
The tutorial called for a 6″ embroidery hoop but I didn’t have that size. Went with 10″. Added some fairy lights.
I had planned on adding little pom poms on the inside of the outer ring. They were sitting right there by my sewing machine. Totally forgot and glued the fabric then the outer loop together. Duh! I lived with that for awhile and decided that the large hoop needed some flair. I thought about making some large pom poms and felt flowers but wanted something a little easier.
Yo-yos! And a big bow!
Other than the wool felt for the head, all the fabric I used was leftover from this year’s Christmas quilt.
I think I’m ready for Christmas. Cookies are baked. Gifts and cards are sent. Decorations done.

It was fun! I miss Everyone—especially Whiskey!
Are there any cookies left?
Cookies are in the freezer. I was going to send and figured out sending the box of $5 cookies would cost $15. And you would probably get them 3 weeks late! So when you come to visit, there is a freezer full of treats!
