Circle Skirt TuTu
I have a good friend that threw herself a 70th birthday party last week. A band, lots of catered food, fire pit– just all around fun.
The only thing is, she asked everyone to wear a tutu.
With my hips…..not flattering attire!
But when you are 70 years old and throwing a party–you get to make any request you want. (Within reason of course.)
So I made a tutu. You know I don’t make clothes but I figured this couldn’t be that hard. Right?
And it wasn’t. I did a whole lot of research on Pinterest and decided on a half circle skirt for my tutu. Went to Joann’s and bought 2 yards of shiny pink satin, 3 yards of glitter tulle, and 1 package of Dritz 1 3/4″ Metallic Waistband Elastic. All before I picked out the free pattern I would use.
I found a website–new to me–It’s Always Autumn. It’s so full of info, I think I spent a couple hours just going through everything she does. Zowie. She is a very productive woman! And she had a free half circle skirt pattern. It was so easy.
Turns out that a half circle skirt takes a lot of fabric. I had plenty for the base skirt but I had planned on putting at least four layers of tulle on top of it. I was only able to do two. But I think it turned out well. The only change I made from the pattern was to use the Dritz Waistband and that added a fun look.
Back in June of 2020 I purchased a Baby Lock Serger and have NEVER used it. I thought I would start making my own t-shirts. I took one free class and was very intimidated by the machine. But this skirt would have been even easier had I used the serger and all it’s fancy feet. And there is a FREE pattern for t-shirts on It’s Always Autumn.
Now I’m determined to use that Serger!
