Bits and Pieces
The mullet toss is over and my life is not quite as frantic. I’ve been getting ready for the festival for weeks. I do the website, social media, and photography. I also do the graphic design for our other events but someone took that over for this one. (Yippee!) There are many other small tasks that I deal with that I can’t even list.
One of those was making these softie mullets for trophies.
And this is one of the winners!
I also made a shopping tote and filled it with fish-related items as a fund raiser at the toss. My friend bid for my bag and won. This is the second bag that she has won through a live auction. She probably just oughtta pay me for a bag!
The money goes back to the community. Mainly in tutoring and scholarships for the local kids plus supplies for the Old Homosassa Learning Center.
Speaking of the learning center, the “Sew Cool & Crafty” Workshop is back up and running. Not at full speed since our coach has a job now. So I’m leading the pack. Last week we worked on bucket hats that are reversible. I made two.
The top two pics are the same hat. Wasn’t happy with all those pleats around the top. The bottom two photos are from my second attempt, both exterior and interior. Same issue with pleats but not as bad. Reversible is cool. I wore the fish side for the mullet toss. (Can you tell that I’m using a paper towel holder for my hat display?)
Perhaps there will be more about bucket hats in the weeks to come. Who knows where my mind will go next? Certainly not me! Haven’t got the whole bucket hat pattern figured out yet. I’m also working on a cap. The hat fixation started with me seeing a cap with hand embroidery on either a blog, or Instagram, or Pinterest. Of course, now I can’t find it! I’ve downloaded a free embroidery pattern from DMC and will hopefully have that finished by next week.
Also back to quilting my first Moda Blockheads 3 quilt. After the headaches of quilting the “Scrappy Times 3” quilt last week, this will be a simple grid pattern.
And then I can will finally get back to the second Moda Blockheads 3 quilt. (or not, matters which way the wind blows.) That one is still just blocks and ideas. Thought I knew how I was putting it together, but a few months have gone by and I’m rethinking it!
And I have a cat! After Maggie my Jack Russell died, Terry and I decided no more pets. Unless one showed up at my front door. This is the second homeless kitty that did exactly that. I couldn’t catch the first one! ( And I have to say I really tried but I was still on crutches. Hard to chase a little yellow kitten with that going on!) This one was so heartbroken, hungry, and lonely she came up to me after a little bit of coaxing and a slice of deli meat! Breaks my heart that people just throw these beautiful creatures out. She’s been to the vet and been declared healthy. And now she is mine!
The squirrels are very upset. They cry all day because of the cat. Even though most of the time she is in the screened room unless I am with her.
But here is the scene. I’ve been painting the deck in my spare time. It’s a huge deck. Terry just moved all the furniture from one end to the middle and then pressure washed. Painting commences on Friday. But. Don’t judge me on this next pic because it is a jumble of furniture and a small cat and an aggressive squirrel in the tree. This photo is a story. In a picture.
I think Miss Kitty will love living here!

Love Miss Kitty! She may help with squirrels! Glad the Mullet event was successful!
Terru
Terry, Just dropped Miss Kitty off for her spaying appointment. She is a very stoic cat. Just accepts what is happening. Doesn’t each scratch me when I put her in the crate. A couple meows at the beginning of the car ride. Hopefully she’ll be the same after surgery!
