Baby Rock Star Quilt
I finished the “Baby Rock Star” quilt!
Mama-to-be and Daddy-to-be didn’t want to know the gender for baby-to-be. So I went with lots of bright colors to keep it okay for a boy or girl.
Coulda shoulda just used all the happy bright colorful fat quarters that I already have but……it was Prime Days back in June and I ordered this pile of pretties from Riley Blake along with most of the fabric at a big discount from Fabric.com.
I used a gray dot from Michael Miller for the background color. I usually go with whites for my quilts but babies are messy–maybe those messes will just blend in!
After receiving the invitation to the shower that was titled “Sunshine mixed with a little Hurricane”, I threw in the rainbows from the quilt shop I visited in Garrison, ND. Gotta have rainbows with that mix!
Then I went to our local quilt shop, Beyond the Stitches, and picked up this colorful stripe for the binding. I love striped binding.
And the backing? I blew the whole “gender neutral” idea and picked this really great Minky Shark in the same order from Fabric.com. Love Minky. Love the sharks. But in my defense on not going with neutral, I hear on the grapvine that a wall in new baby’s room is painted blue. And I know that mama will love it. She’s all about the water, boating, scuba diving. Sharks are cool!
After finding a seam that wasn’t actually stitched, I did more quilting than I usually do. I certainly don’t want this quilt falling apart. As I said earlier, babies are messy and this quilt will hopefully be used a lot for tummy time and then washed a lot!
It’s been raining here for like a 100 days (very slight exaggeration) but Terry and I were able to take this Baby Rock Star Quilt out for a golf cart ride.
Here we are at the Old Homosassa Heritage Park.
On to the Old Homosassa Learning Center to do some posing in front of the mural!
Then the rain came back so I had to take the rest of the snaps at home.
Here’s my favorite, Cat on a Quilt. Miss Kitty is getting really good at posing!
Have to admit, I took that photo and then washed the quilt. Although mama has two dogs, I didn’t want any chance of cat hairs bothering that new baby!
The quilt label….
And, one last glamour pose! Quilt on the ladder!
And then, because it has been raining here for at least the last 5 days (over 9 inches in 2 days) and I can’t work in my gardens outside, I just had to make a drawstring bag for the quilt rather than buying a box and wrapping paper.
Oh well, I might as well pull Ms. Cricut Maker out to make the card. (Okay, if you have a Cricut, you know this is the card pattern that comes with the Maker.)
Baby Shower is Sunday. Done. Wrapped. Card created. Ready to give. Win, Win, Win! And I am so looking forward to meeting that baby!

That turned out great! Have to ask is there a pattern for this quilt or did you design it with the Ohio star in mind? What is the name of the quilt shop in Garrison as my husband and I leave for S. & N. Dakota in a few weeks and I’m always on the lookout for good quilt stores.
Hi Pamela,
There are two shops in Garrison. The one I bought the fabric from was the Merry Moose. It’s a small shop but she carries some Moda and does long arm quilting. The owner was so friendly and we had a long chat. There is another place across the street and I think it’s called This’n That. I didn’t get to look at their fabric. If you are in Bismarck, there is a large quilt shop there. It might be called Bismarck Quilt Shop. It’s a Baby Lock store and has a wide variety of fabric. I didn’t get there on this visit but will next time.
Baby Rock Star is my own design. Graph paper, ruler and color pencils. I like making stars!
Thanks for commenting and reading!

Many thanks for the names of the quilt stores. Always on the lookout and can always count on another quilter to advise, as it seems we have the knack for finding them. I love stars too, so your quilt really resonated with me. I am currently working on a True Lover’s Knot (which is a variation of a 9-patch) for our new bed. Having recently gone from a double to a queen there is little drape of the quilts we are using. I could say “darn the bad luck”, but then I’d be fibbing. Any excuse to sew and I’m on the search for soft florals.
I had not heard of the True Lover’s Knot so looked it up on Pinterest. Very Cool. Have a good trip!
Query ~ I noticed the quilt ladder in one of your pictures. I’ve been searching for one similar to it. May I ask where you got it. LOL ~ Always on the lookout.
Hi Pamela, my husband and I actually made the quilt ladder. I was getting ready to order one on Etsy and he said “we can do this!” So we did! Here is a link to that post https://designsbyktgreen.com/quilt-ladder/ If you don’t want to make it yourself, there are many sites on Etsy that have them available.
You are so (sew) kind ~ but then isn’t that the norm for quilters. I will show my husband your post and while he is NOT handy even HE may attempt making one for me. I’ve wanted one for quite awhile now. I chuckle as we (you & I) have similar tastes in favorite quilt squares and we have both painted furniture gray. We are always donating or giving away our sewing treasures. You’ve helped me with “paper piecing” and have given some quilt store advice in Garrison. Quilters ~ what can I say other than we are sisters in common. Thank you.
My husband is handy but not a carpenter. There is nothing fancy about the ladder. I think it was just cutting, sanding, gluing and staining. Thanks for all of your kind comments, I’m happy that I can help!
Such great colors!! Love the sharks!
Thanks Terry, I love it! It was fun to make!
