In the Garden — Caladiums

Posted on June 6, 2016 by Kathy GreenJune 5, 2016 2
caladiums

I posted at the end of May about my outdoor spaces and how much I love FREE PLANTS! Having all these garden beds could be very expensive to keep them fresh and pretty with seasonal flowers and foliage.  I really try to be frugal where I can be. And I just discovered that I can start caladiums.  Yippee! I have a … ….oh there’s more

Splendid Sampler – Week 2

Posted on June 3, 2016 by Kathy GreenJune 27, 2016
Happy Happy

Another 3 blocks of the Splendid Sampler! The first of these three is Happy Happy. I again used a fat quarter from the Moda Bella Solids for the background.  The rest of the fabric is from Moda charm packs.  I liked doing this one.  I tried the hand embroidery before I machine embroidered around the flowers.  And one of them popped … ….oh there’s more

Nine-Patch Picnic Basket Block Isn’t June the perfect weather for picnics? Yogi Bear to BooBoo: “Picanic baskets may be delicious on the lips, but they’re a lifetime on the hips!” Yeah, I’m dating myself! For this little picnic basket block, I’m using 9 pieces from the Moda Charm Pack Vintage Picnic by Bonnie & Camille. I used several pieces from this charm … ….oh there’s more

In the Garden

In the Garden

Sewing isn’t my only hobby, I have SO many others.  One of my favorites is gardening. I probably spend more time in the garden than in the sewing room.  I had always intended on starting gardening posts–and I did one post way back in June of 2015.  I even have a little Maggie photo there on the sidebar for gardening.  Then I … ….oh there’s more

Splendid Sampler – Week 1

Hearts a Flutter

I decided that I was going to do it, and I did it! I started the Splendid Sampler from Pat Sloan and Jane Davidson. And here are the first three blocks! The main colors will be aqua and red.  But there are a LOT of different shades of aqua. And red. The first block, Hearts a Flutter, was easy. I … ….oh there’s more

My Next Quilt

godzilla

I’ve been planning on starting another quilt.  I like to have ONE quilt going along with one or two other sewing projects. But….. I like to have a quilt finished before I start the next one.  I’ve been putting together my monthly QAYG blocks since September and I’m having a hard time starting another one until that one is finished.  I … ….oh there’s more

Outdoor Furniture Update

finished couch

I’ve been planning to update my outdoor furniture that’s in our screen room for about two years.  And FINALLY did it! I bought this old furniture back in 2011 at one of our local thrift stores.  Really UGLY 1980s stuff along with awful outdoor cushions.  The cushions got thrown into large garbage bags in the garage for storage. With many hours … ….oh there’s more

Blooms and Birds

Blooms and Birds For the month of May QAYG I did an applique block of flowers and birds. My Pinspiration was this pillow: A PDF is included for the shapes.  Just click here and you’ll go to the file on her website. I used these shapes for tea towels that I made almost two years ago. For this block I bought … ….oh there’s more

Quilted Name Pillow Tutorial

I’ve been making all of my grandkids “Name Pillows”.  They are a lot easier than the quilts that I will someday get done! (Maybe Justin and Courtney will get their quilts for graduation, who knows when I’ll get them finished!) Here’s Piper’s and Riley’s.  Click here for the Tutorial for these pillows. I made a different style for Addison and Kendall and … ….oh there’s more

Adley pillow

Adley is the youngest of our eight grandchildren. She’s been a bit of a challenge. So, you know when I got a text from her mom, “Piper and Adley fight over the Piper Pillow.  Would u be able to make Adley one when you have some time”.  (Okay, that’s not an exact text because I fixed the “smart” phone’s autocorrect) … ….oh there’s more
