It’s been an exciting week. My kitchen is almost finished. Probably all done by the end of next week. I have water. I have a dishwasher. I have an oven. I can cook again. But the kitchen still has a bunch of finishing touches. Hopefully by the end of next week. We shall see! I made a lot of progress … ….oh there’s more

nightstand refinished

Last Tuesday, I fully intended to have a new tote all complete and ready to post today. But. Besides doing all the summer holiday weekend chores like getting the deck furniture out and working in the garden, I decided I should spend some time finishing up projects before I started something fresh and much more fun! First off, I finished … ….oh there’s more

quilty progress

I was in Garrison last week and had to support both quilt shops in town by purchasing lots of fabric. Because I should help the local economy, right? When I got home I was motivated to get back to sewing. After all, I did have a lot of NEW fabric! Here’s what my design wall looked like when I returned….. … ….oh there’s more

And back to the wee kitchen in the dungeon…errrr, I mean basement, errr, I mean lovely guest suite. My contractor claims that he will be done by June. Eleven days and counting….. Anyhow… Since making Lauri her … ….oh there’s more

sandhill sling for Lauri

I have been watching my granddaughters in Garrison, ND, and haven’t been in my sewing studio. So I thought I’d share with you the latest Sandhill Sling that I made. This is the last project that I finished before I left DC. Also the last project on the Juki TL-18 for a few months. It is such a great machine … ….oh there’s more

Quilty Cats and other Stories

quilty cats

Last week I was 99.9% sure that I was not making more cat blocks. I filed the pattern away and even threw out all the little labels I use to identify the fabric pieces. I was a bit disappointed in some of the kittens. I didn’t like how the black eyes just disappeared in the dark fabric. And I didn’t … ….oh there’s more

Finally! Yippee! We followed Christa Quilts tutorial that calls for insulation panels, a flannel sheet, duct tape, staples, screws and washers. I recommend her blog for all things quilty. I even bought her book about free motion quilting which I can actually kinda sorta do now! Thanks Christa! I had a BIG BLANK wall in my sewing studio that was … ….oh there’s more

cats in pajamas, the blocks

Did I mention that I planned on making this quilt last year? I bought the background fabric waaaaay back then. And the cheetah fabric that I used for the bengal cat. But I did not buy the pattern. Until April 2025. Because I had a lot going on in 2024 and I never had that time slot to actually cut … ….oh there’s more

This week!

I saw a post on Instagram that resonated with me. The parents, or grandparents, or children hid notes for each other. Reminded me of my own granddaughters. Messages tucked into drawers or piles of fabric. I still have them. And I keep them hidden from my everyday. I left them in the fabric or the drawers and moved them across … ….oh there’s more

Cats in Pajamas, The Pillow Version!

I made the “Dinosaurs” quilt by Elizabeth Hartman a few years ago. It turned out great but took FOREVER! Many, many little pieces. But I thought I was ready to take on another Elizabeth Hartman pattern, “Cats in Pajamas”. “These are too cute. I will make cat quilts for the three younger grandkids—Piper, Adley, and Arthur. And they will love … ….oh there’s more
