And I’m back!
There are SO MANY THINGS I want to make. Instagram is killing me. Such a time suck. I want to make that wallet, that tote, that quilt, that pillow, that dress……
And then my Baby Lock Unity bit the dust two weeks ago. Took it to the local quilt shop for repair and maintenance. I did not panic when they said “two and one half weeks”. Cause I always have a back up sewing machine. Or so I thought…..
It wasn’t enough that the Baby Lock was at the spa. The Bernina had to give me some drama…..
I haven’t used little Miss Bernina in about a year. It was my “carry-a-long” sewing machine for our “Sew Cool Workshop” since it’s small. (Well, small is relative. Compared to the Baby Lock Unity it is small.)
I cleaned out and oiled the Bernina, plugged it in, switched it on.
And nothing. Nada. Not even a buzz.
Terry arrived to check it out.
And nothing. Nada. Not even a buzz.
What to do? The closest Bernina shop is about 45 minutes away. (45 minutes of bumper to bumper red light after red light in snowbird traffic.) I kind of swooned for a while but finally was able to get my brain back to work and did some googling. A very wise person said that if the Bernina 720 was left for a period of time, it might not power up right away. What? The suggestion was to leave it plugged in and switched on. Now I’m a person that KNOWS, if it doesn’t start up right away, it needs lots of money thrown at it and a spa treatment. But. I set it up, switched it on. And checked it about an hour later and…..THE LIGHTS WERE ON! And angels were singing in the background.
That Bernina really is a workhorse. I had to remember all her little quirks but the two of us got stuff done. Partners. That’s me and Bernina. We worked on my Moda BH3 quilt (more about that next week); tried out a new paper piecing pattern that was really difficult but will be making again and am really excited to show you when I get it finished; made a bunch of really sweet felt hearts; plus made my granddaughter a pillow for Valentine’s day. (Which is a whole ‘nother set of drama.) I even pulled out a denim/scrappy quilt that I have been slowly putting together. The Baby Lock has not liked stitching those denim and cotton rows together. But, like I said, Bernina is a workhorse. She just chugged along. More about all the stuff in the coming weeks. So much to tell you about!
Anyhow, I picked up Miss Baby Lock, the prima donna spa lady, on Monday. (I haven’t even had my nails done in how long? and she’s hanging out in the high priced sauna.) Gary, the sewing machine mechanic, told me I was trying to sew through too thick of fabric and I broke a really important part. Whaaaat? It cost me some bucks. She’s back. But now I’m wondering what type of machine I need to sew through two layers of denim? Do I need an industrial machine? Is there anyone out there that can give me some advice? Cause I want to make SO MANY THINGS!
More posts coming in the future with stuff my bestie Bernina and I did together with hopefully not as much whining!
