Quilty Thursday
Okay peeps. This post is full of meanderings. Quilty and otherwise. We’ve had a lot of rain. Thunderstorms. Power outages. But that’s Florida. It’s freaking hot now. Do not move here. Just saying. Peeps. I know you want to. But there’s a lot of rain, hurricanes, power outages, and CRAZY people.
I moved here in 1982. AND CAN NOT LEAVE. Because I love all the rain, hurricanes, power outage, and crazy people. Just kidding. But I do love all those CRAZY people.
STUFF THAT I MIGHT BE A BIT OCD ABOUT
I wanted to take a few moments to talk about Baby Rock Star Quilt. I think it turned out great. I love how bright and happy it is but I lost a few points on a star or two. (Nope, not telling anyone other than you. I do not point out my mistakes!)
The thing is, I’m a bit of a perfectionist. I measured every single HST before putting them into the quilt. And still I lost points. Which doesn’t matter to anyone but me–Mama-to-be was very happy with her gift. She LOVED the shark backing.
Did I mention that this beautiful mama-to-be is a teacher with a masters degree and she tutors at the Old Homosassa Learning Center? And will be putting an after-school amazing program together?
I’m always trying to do better. Right? Isn’t that what life is about? Progress? So I’ve been researching a few things. Like “triangles on a roll”. I scoffed at that idea at first but then I watched some YouTube videos. I think I’ll try them. Cause I want everything I do to be the best I can do. So I’ll be ordering some of those next time I do HSTs.
AND NOW A FEW MOMENTS ABOUT MY SEWING EQUIPMENT
Also, this isn’t a quilty thing, but my Baby Lock is not doing well with thick fabrics. I’m doing more research as to what people use to make bags….totes….boxes. So far, it looks like Juki. I don’t need any fancy stitches. I just want a machine that goes through layers of canvas, interfacing, and lining. And makes even stitches. Too much to ask? Looking for advice, friends.
AND HERE’S WHERE I AM A TOTAL LOSER AT TEACHING A BUNCH OF FRIENDS HOW TO SEW
I’ll continue using my Baby Lock for quilting and the Bernina is the machine I take to the “Sew Cool and Crafty” Workshop that I organize. Or perhaps I disorganize. Ha! My goal was to have a bunch of people that want to sew or craft together. Because we don’t have one project, it can be a bit hectic. Okay, I was totally overwhelmed. I’m good at sitting with one person and helping them through a sewing project. But….more than one, my brain kinda goes into overdrive. A few projects might have to start over. Fortunately another member stopped by that does crochet. The group is now thinking “magic circle”. And there might be crocheted fox stoles. It’s really a lot of fun and I love all the jesting. (And now I will learn how to crochet!) And did I mention that these are FRIENDS? OMG. I have such a great life. Sewing and hanging with friends that do not hestitate to tell me I DO NOT KNOW WHAT I’M DOING. Oh wait, I already knew that. Love this group.
BACK TO QUILTING.
I finished my first Moda BlockHeads 3 quilt back in June.
I tucked the second BH3 away while I worked on projects with deadlines. Last weekend I pulled it back out. I’m pretty excited about how it’s turning out. I’m using a “quilt as you go” method because this one is queen-sized and I find that it’s a struggle to quilt one this large on a home machine. I quilt it in sections then join them all together and then add the backing. Yesterday I finished the top. WooHoo!
The guest bedroom is a “work in progress”. I don’t want to hang pictures until I find a headboard that I like. No luck so far. Pics are leaning in a corner. And then there’s the curtains which are another long story. A least when I get this quilt finished, I’ll have made a step towards completion!
AND NOW I MUST SHOW YOU A CAT.
While I was quilting, Miss Kitty was checking out open cabinet doors. Always looking for something to chase!
AND NOW AN IDEA ABOUT ANOTHER QUILT THAT I WILL NOT HAVE THE TIME TO ACTUALLY DO
And one last thought, this striped fabric that I used for the binding on the Baby Rock Star quilt. I love it.
I have one 2 1/2″ by 42″ strip left. Can I base a whole quilt on this one piece of fabric? Maybe a Norah Quilt? I made one last year. Sunny Day Supply starts a sew along every year based on this giant log-cabin block.
It’s a pretty quick quilt to piece. And I would make it in throw size. Based on that stripe fabric I think it would be a very happy quilt!
Probably oughta get some other stuff done first!
AND NOW I GOTTA SAY GOODBYE!

Sounds like a new sewing machine is needed! Love the baby quilt and the kitty of course!
I think you are right!
