Quilty Progress
Did you know that March is National Quilt Month?
Rather than starting more quilts, I will spend March finishing quilts! WooHoo!
Starting with my first Moda BlockHeads 3. (I’m making two) It’s all basted and I just finished pressing it. On to quilting tomorrow.
I’m really loving the color combos and all the blocks. Here it is on my pressing table. It’s just so bright and happy.
Speaking of pressing table, it has been in the second upstairs bedroom since last summer. I finally cleaned out that bedroom. All my sewing stuff is downstairs. Yippee! Oh wait, other than the closet full of batting and pillow forms and my cutting table. The batting and pillow forms are staying there but I would really to have that table in my sewing room. It is so awkward to move it down those 14 steep steps so Terry and I’ve decided to wait until someone young visits us and ask them to bring it down for us. (That’s the tricks people in our age group start playing!)
Speaking of visits. My son Alan, his wife Lauri, and all three grandkids will be here next week from North Dakota!!!!! (Yes, pretty sure that table will be coming downstairs because that’s a lot of young people!)
That upcoming visit kind of prompted me to get all the sewing paraphernalia out of that room since the granddaughters might need a corner to sleep in. I spent an entire day getting things picked up and giving them new homes on the first floor. (Didn’t even get to turn my sewing machine on and it’s National Quilting Month!)
It’s so empty now! That’s my former dining room table. Now a game table/lego building table/kids’ craft table.
And there’s my cutting table!
Last summer I gave the daybed that was in there away. I was turning this into my sewing room and it just took up way too much space. I really regret that rash decision since my sewing room is in the former dining room now. But the kids will not be huddled in a corner with thin blankets, I’ll be setting up a queen-sized aerobed for the granddaughters.
Now that I’m making two twin-sized quilts from the Moda Blockheads 3, I’m thinking twin beds for this room. Or bunk beds? All homes on the water have a bunk room, right? (Now just gotta sell that idea to Terry!)
Back to National Quilt Month.
It’s really a big deal on Instagram. If you are on that social media platform, check out #igquiltfest2021. Another hashtag is all about scrappy March. And I can’t find it right now. Scheesch. (I do plan these posts! Really!)
Anyhow, I just got my scrappy WIP quilt back out last week and added some more rows. Perfect timing! This is my third scrappy quilt for scrappy times. I plan on piecing a bunch of minky pieces from other quilts for the backing. That will really be scrappy. And messy. Cause minky is a messy fabric. And slippery like the devil.
Might have a lot more quilty progress to report next week!
And I’m closing with the photo of my orchid that’s blooming again. I have been orchid-challenged and this makes me happy!
