Moda Blockheads 3, almost done with all those blocks!
Over the past three weeks I finished eight of the blocks from this quilt-a-long.
Starting with Block 45 and ending with Block 52.
I’m not going into each block because there are a lot of them! And you can grab all of the blocks for Moda Blockheads 3 on the Block Heads 3 Archive. I have to admit that I really liked all of these blocks.
This post is about what I plan to do with all of those blocks. Or I should say, what today’s plan is. ‘Cause my mind changes as the days go by!
I learned a lot from this project and enjoyed making each block, although some of them were frustrating and Jack the Ripper was employed on several pieces. A few were thrown into the trash but I did go back and make new. The biggest thing I learned from this quilt, was that I should have picked picked three or four basic colors and stuck with them. Instead I used one fabric designer’s line which had about twenty different colors. I tried to bring them all together with a lot of white. When I was about half way through I said this is a hot mess. With the finish of block 52 I had a plan.
I took all the blocks out and divided them into colorways. The first is more of neutral earth colors. All of these blocks have a combination of yellows, greens, grays, or browns. (A few have pink, but I’m okay with that!) Here’s the blocks. I decided to pull them all together by adding gray blocks between them and there will eventually be a yellow border. (Yellow and Gray are Pantone’s colors of the year–this will be a very 2021 trendy quilt!) This one should be a full-size quilt when I get it finished. (I think I like it!) Here’s what I’m thinking about now but I still have four blocks to go so there could be changes!
The next bunch of blocks include blue and pink hues. I’ve put these blocks on the wall in the same pattern as the first quilt but it probably won’t end up like that. This quilt will be either twin or throw size. Or maybe even a baby quilt–pink and blue! I’m not sure if that teal and white block in the middle or the block with the green really fit with the color scheme. I think there will be cha-cha-cha-changes….
And the last quilt is just a burst of colors. Today I’m calling it “happy”. How could you feel otherwise with these hues? This one is on the design wall in the same pattern layout but I’m not sure if that’s how it will end up. I have mixed feelings!
Anyhow. I’m pretty sure that the first quilt layout is final since I already bought the fabric to finish it! There are still four more blocks left and I’ll be “interviewing” each one before I piece them to see where they belong. Very happy that this Moda BlockHead journey is almost over!
Next week I’ll be posting about a different quilt design that I’m working on. (I needed a break from these blocks!) This one is my own design and if you follow me on Instagram (@designsKTG) you might have seen the progress. Come back next Thursday and check it out!

Each block is so beautiful and amazing! Can’t imagine trying to decide how to arrange them.
Great job
Terru
Thanks Terry! I take lots of pics of the different arrangements then study the photos. Helps with the final arrangement!
