Quilt Ladder
I usually post about my quilt progress on Thursdays but there has been none of that. So instead I thought I’d meander about my new quilt ladder!
I have admired quilt ladders for a while. I love having my quilts on display but not really as wall hangings. Right now they are on chairs, the sofa, a trunk. Oh yeah, on my beds, too!
Here’s my daughter’s quilt ladder. $10 at a garage sale.
Every time I mention to Terry that I would like to get one, his response is “where are you going to put it?” And he’s right, I don’t like having a lot of “stuff”. I’ve been working towards getting rid of all extra furniture and dishware.
But it didn’t matter. I still wanted a quilt ladder. Finally found one on Etsy that I liked. $140. Told Terry I was ordering it and he said, “I will make you one”.
So we measured Jessica’s quilt ladder. Went to Home depot after we got home. Bought two 1 x 4 x 6 foot pine boards and three 36″ inch oak dowels. And a small can of gray stain. About $45.
I don’t have any photos of the making of the ladder because I didn’t realize that all that banging in the garage was the construction process. Terry even sanded it–usually my job. I did the staining. (easy-peasy) My new quilt ladder is 6 feet tall. (One foot shorter than Jessica’s but I might end up putting it in my sewing room and the ceilings are low in there.) There are five rungs spaced 12″ apart.
And it’s perfect! Just what I wanted. And I have plenty of space for it! This is a pic of it in my office. I tried it in several spots.
Ended up I liked it right here.
This is the line between my kitchen and family room. The tile is in the family room. Isn’t that strange? Shouldn’t the tile be in the room that could potentially have water damage? That’s how it was when we bought the house. Of course, the hard wood was damaged in the kitchen when we moved in because the dishwasher had run over a few times. We replaced the hardwood in the kitchen and should have run it throughout the house at that point (16 years ago) but have you ever replaced tile? I have. Probably about 1000 square feet in a previous home. OMG. What a mess–tile and grout dust everywhere. I told myself that the tile was installed in such a pretty pattern, I would just live with it.
Anyhow….
I think the quilt ladder looks amazing here. Terry even liked it.
Pretty. Pretty. Pretty.
Now. Time to get back to making quilts!

I’m sending this post to my husband! I LOVE that quilt ladder – I’ve wanted one for a while too and there’s still time before Christmas!
Glad you love it! It makes me smile to look at it! Hope your husband builds it for you!
